snake
As you get older the beard tend to stop growing but turns grey ,and the hair starts to grow from the nostrils and the ears at a greater rate for some reason.

I read somewhere that's due to the immune system dropping. Not sure how much truth there is in that but it makes sense.
SupraStar 3000
beards DO stop at a certain length, this is called your 'terminal beard length'. It varies from each person and as you get older it often increases. We know what we're talking about people Ok, now were getting somewhere. So, can we assume every caveman has a 'terminal beard length' and therefore,... some have really long beards that hinder their work, and others just have stubble. Interesting isn't Right folks, moving on to pubic hair. Why does that stop at a certain length? whats it for? and do you think our cave mans hair would be any longer than ours today? SupraStar 3000
So, do you think Scott, such a thing as 'terminal pubic hair length' exists?
Scott
So, do you think Scott, such a thing as 'terminal pubic hair length' exists? It does, but it's not due to the limited length of the hair itself, it's down to the dying hair falling out. If you have 10,000 pyubs and 10 fall out per day at 20 months old, they will be replaced with new ones that will grow at approx 0.1-0.2" per month. Depending how fast your hair grows and dies determins how long it appears to be. For every 10 pyubs that fall out, 10 mature giving a constant cycle of maximum length. SupraStar 3000
Ah i see. So roughly speaking in 3 years the average male with loose his entire crop of pubic hair which has been replaced with new. So 3 years is the longest it can grow. 10 x 1000 = 10000 divide by 365 days (2.73 years)

Obviously different hair has different "shelf life" and different speeds of growth. Everyone is always different, the people with crazy length pyubs are exceptions to the rule. Same with the foosty nail growers etc. Don't teach you this stuff in school eh Ed

jim
Quality thread Ed As far as cavemen go, they're a myth - everyone knows Adam was the first man. I think beard/hair length has a lot to do with split ends, so to grow longer it needs to be trimmed a little to encourage extra growth. Rob
For a serious beard question, I now have one, since I've nowt else to do, so why do some men have clear skin in the "dip" or "mandibular swale" twixt bottom lip and chin. Mine is full of hair, is it natural to have this bit full of hair and therefore do those other chaps trim them, like a masculine George Michael? Everyones different, I couldn't grow a beard if I tried.... I don't have a lot of facial hair at all by comparison to fuzzys. The bit directly under my lip, about half an inch wide, has hair but as it goes down towards my chin it thins out so it doesn't actually connect. Either side of it is fuzz free too. monsween
As scott mentioned, every persons is different. Some come in straight, curly, bushy, wirey, patchy etc etc I for instance cant grow the tash and chin together. My tash is long at the sides to that it "joins" into the main beard
