Chris Wilson
That would be a great in the workshop, nice big wiring diagrams, scope patterns, and vehicle info menus without peering at a laptop, I wonder how much they are secondhand....? creative
Our it company that does our software for real estate has one of these. Its a very cool piece of kit. It hooks upto a laptop/computer and is displayed via a projector. Trying to convince the boss to get one... But they ain't cheap!

Chris Wilson
How well do they work, assuming you wanted to use normal PC applications, in a garage with enough natural light to see what you are doing, work wise? or do they need semi darkness? Do they allow you to use any app on the PC, or are you limited to stuff that uses Internet explorer or any other gotchas? They aren't as dear as I thought, and I have now found 4 garages using them, or just normal projectors, it really is a pain coming out from under the dash or bonnet to look at a laptop screen witha tiny wiring diagram on it. Something projected 5 x 3 foot on a wall screen would let you look at it from afar. I am liking this very much, but need to do some more research, I have long given up asking sales people, they'll sell their Granny for a commission

Branners
The usual setup for a smartboard is around £1k. That includes the board and the short throw projector. Most projectors will cope indoors with minimal light, start throwing in natural daylight or decent florescents and it gets trickier. If the projector has at least 2000ansi lumens then it should cope. Our minimum standard at work is 3500ansi lumens now to cope with sunny days and lots of lights. They actually work ver well, you can get touch pens that allow you to draw on it too. Hunt around for a cheap smartboard like this http://smarttech.com/ and you should be okay. Bear in mind your oily hands will leave pretty big marks on the projection surface.
