chris blackwell
Hi, Doing a full restoration on the car now but when it was on the road i noticed the front passenger side bolt kept coming loose causing the roof to rattle, obviously i could put some lock tight on it and it will solve this problem but I'd quite like to be able to remove it Has anyone else had a similar problem? I really dislike the system of removing the roof as it seems to take ages. I'd like to replace all the bolts and give the roof an overhaul if it's possible. Can you get replacement parts? I don't really want to get another roof as i've heard they are very expensive. The quick release thing on the fast and the furious film would be cool Thanks, Chris
Josh42
Let me know the response to this as I'd quite like to overhaul my roof. My drivers side seal leaks only slightly...
SupraStar 3000
On the instruction diagram found in the wallet for the bolts and clips. it show a particular sequence for tightening the bolts. Mine seems to be fine after I've followed the sequence. but when i randomly tighten from corner to corner i seem to get the rattling quite a lot. Sakey
Make sure when you put the roof on it its on a flat road and also they do come loose after first tightening it. Re-tightening them after a drive usually solves the problem on mine. As for replacing bolts they can be replaced not sure how much they are from Toybota. Pricey I guess Edited December 10, 2011 by Sakey (see edit history)
chris blackwell
Thanks for this guys, I haven't been tightening them in any sequence, just randomly and I haven't done it on a flat surface. Will try this when it's back on the road. Do you know what the sequence for tightening them is? I don't seem to have an instruction diagram. dude
You need to dismantle the roof and tighten all the captive bolts, its not too bad a job but they are whats rattling not the hold down bolts, The F&F bit is just the parking lock on the aero top, you have that already but it will not hold the roof down at any sort of speed. Josh42
What's the sequence of tightening? And what else is it we tighten other than the wobble bolts?
SupraStar 3000
My Supra is wrapped away for the winter, so have no way of seeing the diagram. Maybe someone else has the wallet and diagram. From memory is was passenger front, passenger rear, driver rear, driver front, centre lock.

dude
This also help with leaking? Not really, if it leaks its normally because the water drains are blocked.
The Raven
The rubber is crap. These cars are old. The aero was never ment to see our weather and salt ect. Check the drains, think about replacing the rubbers.
dude
Mine leaked in the corners so I used a dollop of rubber friendly grease and it never leaked again.
