RA28
Greetings fellow Supra fans. I thought it was time to introduce myself. My first car was a TA22 Celica ST coupe, next came the amazing RA28 GT litback (Mustang shape) My biggest regret that I sold it to upgrade to a nasty 83 Celica with the pop out lights. Next came a MK1 Supra 2.8 with the narrow wheel arches, silky smooth and left my mates 3 litre Capri miles behind. Then came the Mk2 with the LED dash and flared arches and I still cannot remember why I sold it. After a succesion of boring family cars I returned to a Mk3, but rising running costs and a blown head gasket ended my Supra ownership. After many years of yearning for a MK4, I have just secured a nice NA Aerotop in black that has been on eBay for some time. I must confess to being rather excited. RA28
Thanks for the welcome . Yes, this was the ebay bargain. My heart sank when it was posted here, I thought one of you would gazump my offer. There were plenty of bargains out there though. Theres a red TT with bottom end issues on Gumtree for £600, but its in Ireland. A black NA on Autotrader for £1300, Loads of decent ones on Piston heads for less than £3k. It was a hard choice! RA28
Got the train from Leiceter to Rochester, did the deal and drove back. I was so pleased that the Dartford Tunnel was on the route, it was bloody cold but I still opened the windows. It was a bit of a gamble buying this from ebay. Mechanically it is amazing. The engine is super quiet and the gearbox is fine. No oil leaks, tight steering.A little smoke on starting, but given the time of year and cold, damp atmosphere, nothing to worry about. For 140k miles I am impressed. Interior is a little tatty and looks like it has not seen a Dyson since God was a boy. The Overdrive light is on and off like many others. Some of the dash lights are blown. The respray is pretty good, with a couple of rust blisters on the tailgate around the window. I have already scraped the paint off and given it a liberal dose of Kurust gel, which looks nasty but I prefer this to rust. The Aircon works fine, but there is a horrible labouring noise intermittently from the compressor. Overall, I still think for £1800 this was a great deal. RA28
I thought i would update you on my fettling. ebay is my best friend at the moment. So far, my shopping list; Grisons black leather cream leather repair kit job lot of black leather hide 3mm scrim foam Gummi Phlege rubber conditioner Carbon fibre fabric High temp auto spray glue Heavy duty leather sewing machine needles Black and white leather sewing thread Midnight black carpet dye I had an enjoyable day yesterday wrapping the armrest and console section. The leather is back to front giving a suede effect. I have treated it with Barbour clothing wax to give it a deep, oiled leather effect. The seats are looking a little better after treatment with Grisons. I also lightly sanded the pitted steering wheel and gear shift before applying Grisons. I also knocked up a leather handbrake cover using a paper template. Before and after pics attached. Next job is carbon wrapping the gear surround.
