a98pmalcolm
Hi all. Ok nightmare day wiring up heated windscreen. For some reason the 30amp fuse between the battery and the relay is getting VERY HOT when the screen is activated. It worked perfectly but heat issues within the wiring are worrying? Should I put the fuse between the replay and heated screen instead? I Have attached a picture is anyone cant help. Thanks Paul http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/9458/wiringz.jpg
Scott
What gauge of wire are you using? The heat would suggest impedance in the circuit. The most likely suspect for this is thin wire not suitable for 30 amps.
d_d
You sure its a 30 amp fuse, maybe its on the limit and getting very hot.

Scott
Just looked at the actual diagram there.... snot half lmfao. I doubt your battery would be lasting long either

a98pmalcolm
Yer heckler has been so so helpful drawn up a diagram how its meant to be done and the wire i have used isn'y good enough. Paul Whifin also tells me it needs 2 relays. So looks like I gotts strip the whole dam lot out and start again.. I'v wasted so much money in wiring that I thought would be good enough. And the time this has taken...
Scott
What rating is the relay you are using? You should be able to get away with one if it's big enough and the cable you use is big enough.
a98pmalcolm
New problem.. All rewired and cables aren't getting hot neither is the fuse, just warm, but the battery went completely flat after 45 mins of it being turned off with one for the relays buzzing.. Scott
Could be a faulty relay but I would suggest you take it to someone who knows what they are doing bud. I'm all for "have a go" but your initial attempt at this shows that you don't really know what you are doing. Last thing I want to read is your car being on fire, or worse. Chris Wilson
Just tape the wiring to the screen. Sorted.... They draw a LOT of current, you need decent connections and decent cable, and a proper (probably none Ebay) relay of good conservative amperage rating. a98pmalcolm
Getting there slowly guys. Using 35amp wire 30 amp fuses 30 amp relays Just need to sort out the switch correctly as i'm an active spoiler switch to keep an OEM look and then hay presto! should be all done
Chris Wilson
That should handle it, don't have it so you can accidentally leave it on with the engine not running, the battery will be flat in no time.
a98pmalcolm
Oh i know that chris!! When I wired the switch up 1st time it left the current running 45 mins or so when i returned to the car DEAD!! couldn't even run an interior light lol
