Parts needed to repair drivers window mechanism

Recommended Posts

Was sat in traffic yesterday, heard a few "pings" and my drivers side window slowly slid down. I've taken the door card off, the motor works fine, and the cables don't seem to be broken. One part that is broken is the top of the bit with the blue arrow pointing to it (photo borrowed from another thread), resulting in the top cable hanging loose. Can I just buy the white plastic bit (and drill out the rivet to replace) or do I have to buy all the cable related bit's too?

This happened to mine last year. Unless you go to a breakers, you wont be able to get hold of the white runner. To be honest, it would probably be a bit of a balls ache to replace the dinky bit of brittle plastic. I just replaced the whole window regulator, you need to think that if that runner has gone brittle then what kind of condtion are the other going to be in.

Your best bet would be to renew the lot (bar the motor, these are extortionate from Mr.T), I think the regulator is about £100, if you're interested then I can rifle through my receipts and tell you exactly what I paid and I can give you the part number too (drivers side window regulator for a 1993 J-spec TT). Pretty easy job too to be honest, took me about an hour

You cannot buy that part.

Not difficult to repair if you know a little diy, it depends on how badly it's broken on how you fix it and what materials and tools you have.

The ends of the cable go into the small white rectangular part, each end goes through a spring to give a little damping for when it stop/starts.

Excuse the rubbish drawing.
