Wife's landrover reversed into in car park!

Was in the designer outlet in York doing a bit of Christmas shopping only to come out to find a big dent in the rear passenger door. luckily someone had witnessed the incident and left details (make, model and reg). Spoke to security and nothing was on CCTV but said car is seen leaving car park. Security were very helpful and are happy for the police to speak to them if necessary. The woman who witnessed it also says she will make a statement if needed.

So we spent 2 hours down York police station giving details to a very helpful and friendly policeman. We've been very lucky that someone has witnessed it and helped us out loads. It really makes me furious when someone does not even have the decency to stop and give insurance details! A***holes (sorry mods!). God knows what I'd have been like if it were my supra.

Try your best to make sure they get the book thrown at them. Leaving the scene of an accident etc, push for absolutely everything mate. Mistakes happen, but not taking repsonsibility is shocking.

:yeahthat:

No doubt they will deny everything! But how the hell can you miss hitting a land rover!

Well you say that, but I had just pulled up to a petrol pump in an Esso garage in Dartford, and a woman was reversing from the parking spots that were perpendicular to the pumps and she just reversed into the side of my old S3 landy. It was a proper bang and I saw her whole body move and hair fly about, but she jsut drove off as if nothing had happened, she didn't even look in her mirrors to see what she had hit, else she would have seen a large 4x4 with a man sitting in it. I found it hilarious as I didn't care about my own car, but what manner of unaware simpleton was she?

I'm not surprised at all these days. The cost of insurance and how much you will get fleeced if you do fess up puts most people (and yes I mean most people as in the majority) in an uncomfortable position. When faced with the option of ownership of responsibility in the face of plausible deniability how many in reality will stand up and be counted? We'll all champ our gums about it but who will stand up and fess up??? Bearing in mind that it's well known that "chumps" that do fess up get keel hauled, given a raw deal, and treated like an example etc etc Everyone we know will know someone that's had an insurance scam pulled on them because of honesty!! The only day you will know how honest you are is the day you hit something in a car park and no-one is there to see you. Put this in perspective I have had major damage done to my vehicles 4 times and one of those was my supra with a 3 foot gouge and a hole in the door and all of those I found upon return to my parked vehicle. I did get the f*cker that did my supe but the other 3 I am owed (see where I am coming from here?)

sorry to hear mate! a mate of mine was on a busy road and had to back up to let someone through, sadly scraped along the side of a parked car, he pulled up, knocked on some doors but the owner was no where to be seen so he left a note with his details. simple! shame that this type of thing is getting rarer and rarer now days

I returned to my Celica a few years ago to find a crunched quarter panel and a note from the police asking me to call them. Someone had skidded into my car in the wet trying to avoid another car on the narrow lane and had reported it to the police asking them to get in touch with me and offering to sort it all out via their insurance. True to their word, their insurance was brilliant, unlike the hotel who dropped a wardrobe on my supra.....

You didn't even press the horn?

Now imagine that very women is still out there driving... Scary thought.

Think I am going to avoid Dartford from now! :D

No, I didn't think she was going to hit me, what with her mirrors being filled with a wall of green metal. But as I said, I wasn't that bothered.

Exactly, I "touched" another car in a car park, it was a paint mark and I would have asked the lady to come back to mine and I'll polish it out if I hadn't thought that would sound a bit dodgy, but I waited for the owner and we swapped details. The total insurance bill was over £800 including £400 for a weeks car hire. A week? It was an hours work, if that. I now have to declare it for 5 years, and so will she.

I can honestly say that if it happens again, I will stiff others as I have been stiffed onto myself, or something. Ooh-er.
