Vodafone to stop 360.com service. Is there an alternative?

I've done quite a bit of searching on this but can't find a definitive answer and was hoping someone on here could help out.

My mobile contract is currently with Vodafone and I have been using 360.com as my outgoing mail server, for my Orangehome emails. Vodafone have anounced they a stopping the 360 service at the end of the month, with means I won't be able to send emails using my Orangehome email account when I'm using 3g. They say I will have to use an alternative like gmail or hotmail, which to be honest is a really pain in the butt.

I don't know all the technical terms or how this all works, but am I right in thinking 360.com was relaying my outgoing emails, and if that is the case, is there a solution that doesn't involve changing my email address.

Hope that makes some sense.

Possible they are stopping this as Orange has merged with T-Mobile to become "Everyone Everywhere"

If you have a GMail account, you can attach your OrangeHome e-mail account & sync via that.

From what I've read that is also an issue. Apparently if you send an email using that method all replys will go back to gmail.

This isn't just an Orange email problem. Vodafone are not going to supply a SMTP service anymore

I would be very very surprised if Voda were pulling their SMTP service.

Usually it would be something like smtp.vodafone.com and so long as you are on a voda 3g connection it should let you relay your email accounts through that.

So many people use smtp via 3g on laptops and PDAs then they would be brave to remove it completely.

edit to add - It appears it is mail.vodafone.net or send.vodafone.net for smtp sending.

hmm, it would appear the 360 service replaced the mail.vodafone.net service, and is indeed being completely removed. I use Voda for business at work with a number of 3g cards, so I will check with the customer services team to see what options there are.
I'd be extremely worried if they stopped their SMTP service, we use Vodafone as well at work (though don't use any SMTP services as such, we use BES for mail).

Scott, do you have a GMail account? Could you try adding your Orange account to a GMail one & then try linking to your iPhone.

Ok mate, . I'll be interested to hear what you find out. As you have probably guessed I don't know much about this but it does sound like a very odd thing to do, considering most people are now using smart phones. The only thing I can think of is its Vodafones way of saving money.

I do have one but I don't use it, I will give it a go, even if it's just to prove it does work. If push comes to shove I will just end up using my MobileMe email a lot more. These days it's such a pain in the butt changing email address when every things linked to it. I can't be arsed with having accounts linked to accounts just to make something work
