Parking dilema - Advice required

Hello all,

I live in a small cul-de-sac of around 20 houses. 16 houses have drives and or garages and 4 have allocated parking areas which are marked and numbered.

The parking area is quite tight and all 4 residents are respectful of each others needs and we all park with care and consideration. There is just enough room for a turn in from the space where you park without having to do any 3 point turn malarky.

Over the past 6 weeks an occupant from the street who has a garage and a drive has started to park their 2nd untaxed car at the side of their garage, which in turn eats into our turning circle, hence there is now a lot of 3 point turn malarky for the 4 residents to park their cars.

I very politly in my opinion wrote a note and stuck it under the wipers, front and rear. The note read and I quote word for word:

Hello, this car is not parked in a proper bay. Please remove it as it is making parking awkward for all the residents opposite your garage. Happy to speak if required, all the occupants opposite your garage. Many thanks for your assistance. Please feel free to tell me if anyone thinks this is aggressive??

On my return home this evening, I noticed that my notes had been removed and were now placed shoved inbetween the handle of the door on the offending vehicle. My note had a reply which reada, and I quote word for word:

COME + SPEAK TO ME!! This area does not display any no parking restrictions!!! I am not the only person to park here. We only have 1 bay!! to put 2 cars on my drive would mean car No 2 been on the pavement this is illegal, my car is not parked illegally! P.S. using my windscreen wipers to put paper under has damaged them please come and + pay for the repair. this also constitutes as criminal damage!!

So, I go to the house and knock on the door, the woman who answered saw the note in my hand and before I could even introduce myself, stated shouting at me that my note was very aggressive and who the hell did I think I was. Again before I could speak, she kept ranting that she would not move her car and that was that, then slammed her door in my face.

Now the fact the family living there have a drive and a garage, breaks me that they now continue to park their untaxed vehicle in the other 4 residents turning circle. Is it only us who think this is out of order?

Whats the score now with untaxed vehicles, do the have to be SORN by law?

Even though she is right, there are no parking restrictions, but she is not parking in a marked bay, therefore by default at the very least she is parking very inconsideratly.

Here is the interesting bit, the man of the houshold is an RMP, Regimental Military Police!!

Do I just put up with it or risk getting my own car vandalised??

Any legal ideas??

Report the untaxed car to DVLA (that is if it is on the public road).

Knock again, don't say a word.

Once she has finished ranting, ask her calmly... "Can I talk?" - Then just explain the situation, advise that you aren't having a go & apologise if they feel that way. Some people get threatened too easily. Just tell her it is nothing to do with enforcement or legal parking, it is just a bit of common courtesy you would like them to have in consideration to the parking.

I have a different plan, but you said it had to be legal. :)

The first part of your note is just a little aggressive :)

Yes, but is my turning circle a public road, it is seperated from the main road by a pavement which has all the curb stones lowered.

Do you know who owns the land the turning circle is on? If it untaxed it has to be sornd, for it to be sornd it has to be off a public road, if its not you could get them in poo poo.

Many thanks, I'll take the offered approach and if it doesnt work I'll be asking you for your illegal plan.

Thanks for your reply,,,

Really, you think that is aggressive? my punctuation marks clearly show a full stop. This car is not parked in a proper bay. Please remove it as its making..... etc etc. I said Hello and thank you.

If you think my note was a little aggressive, what do you make of hers??

My god, I'm a grass!!! That was far too easy and claims to be annonymous, I'm sure there will be an electroic foot print somewhere mind.

Ah. Well, erm, that probably was the 'best' course of action, but I'd imagine they will guess who dobbed them in, and you may get reprisals. If I was you, I would've at least tried to have brokered some kind of compromise first, and mentioning that 'of course, I could just report the car the DVLA, as it's untaxed', but what's done is done now.

Hope your car doesn't get something nasty 'accidentally' poured over it. :(

Maybe Paul is right so next time when she is screaming at you just calmly ask if she finds you attractive and gauge her interest to see if she is up for it.

Exactly, women are strange creatures, they show their emotions in different ways. No doubt she parked there as an excuse to get you into bed. :)

Yes, dont worry, I tried it between posts, same answer from her I am affriad. Even if I had accepted anyones offer for assistance, they would have probably blamed me anyway. I too hope their are no unexplained accidents to my vehicle. I'll try the peace plan again tomorrow.
