Im not very well clued up on tech, but i just wondered what peoples recommendations are. I have a budget of around 250-300 quid so i want the best i can get. Guest Budz86
I've always had HP's and they're brilliant. Lenovo are made by IBM irrc, but I never owned one. Go for the best processor and most RAM you can afford, minimum of intel i3 and 3gb of RAM.
Morpheus
My Mum's HP is quite good for the same sort of money. I can't remember the model but it has Altec Lansing speakers. I have a pair of P.c. speakers and a sub from them and after 16 years, they're still the best ones I have. Acer are good but it all depends on the specification. Try doing a comparison on Scan.co.uk for example, like this... http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/laptops-netbooks/all Now, you say the current one is slowly dying; it could be that the memory just needs upgrading or the cooling fan is getting blocked and needs a clean? Putting a laptop on a carpet will kill it in no time. They're very fussy about cooling, being so compact. There are stands with USB powered cooling fans built in. Great for Christmas prezzies! redsupraman82
i have always used a company called novatech, it might be a little over your budget but there pc and laptops are awsome, plus you can get it made to your spec! i got my studio pc from there with a intel i5 processor and using 12 gig of ram, plus loads of other bits for little under 500 quid! to buy that in a shop its mega bucks!! the only problem is that they dont normally come with an OS but im sure you can find a copy of one of them from somewhere.... worth a look http://www.novatech.co.uk/?gclid=CL3h4PPP2qwCFYYPfAodCU11qQ hope it helps

gavin.starr
Its the wrong time of year to buy a lappie. I dare say it is but she needs one, Its going to be for christmas so i know i will pay more for it than if i was to wait untill after christmas. But needs must. I have seen this which seems pretty well spec'd I realised that 250-300 was going to get her a bog standard one. http://www.ebuyer.com/288575-fujitsu-lifebook-ah531-laptop-vfy-ah531mp436gb
stevie_b
Its the wrong time of year to buy a lappie. Out of interest, what's the right time of year? January sales? To the OP: you could consider restoring the operating system to factory settings. This is easy to do but it'll mean all your applications, photos, music etc will need to be backed up and then re-installed after the restore. Easy but tedious. Also, not much of a Christmas present! gavin.starr
We did all that 2 months ago and it didnt help it out much. The lappy is 6 years old now so it hasnt had a bad spell to be honest.

Usually Feb onwards, that being said with the HDD crisis, May onwards.
