seba
I can take a shot at it if you want, the more versions the more choice you have. Just send me a picture of your enginebay, bling, your little left toe or any picture you want to use. And the text.
stevie_b
A gif is just another format of computer image file. Other examples are jpeg (digital cameras usually store photos on their memory cards as jpegs) and png. You can easily convert between the formats using some decent image manipulation software. The hardest part will be to make the image in the first place. It sounds like you're making a banner ad for this site, and you'll want it to contain more than just a photo of an engine bay (eg phone number, email, your company name, what you do). Edit: just re-read your post, and I think you already know most of what I've said.
Morpheus
This might help... http://www.gickr.com/ taken from this search....for example...pretty straightforward. You just need to know the preferred file size or banner size that you want or can have in pixels wide by height. http://www.bing.com/search?FORM=IEFM1&q=GIF+maker&src=IE-SearchBox Btw, a GIF is used because it can be animated easily by combining multiple images into one file or picture, that, as you can see left or top right, changes. It doesn't have to be animated but you'll be able to include more info if you do, of course. Some of the links above will let you crop or size the image to fit a specific width and height. That's your main job to begin with, uploading the images and cropping them to fit, all the same size. For example, Paul Brown's banner above is 468x60 pixels. Right click it (or any other image) and click properties at the bottom of the list to see the info.

Scott
It's not a 2 min job unfortunately bud. If you put something up for offer then I'm sure you will get some takers. You are afterall asking for help to produce a tool that will help your business and income. I doubt I would see you jumping into threads with people asking for stuff to be polished/painted for free
Noz
I used to design graphics and banners all the time for friend's. I think you should have a few different people have a go and then you can choose the one you prefer. PM me your email I'll send you stuff I used to do when I get home.
