tbourner
My 57 i-CTDi has a donking knocking clonking kind of noise on right hand turns, I'd describe it as one of those wooden block instrument things being hit every time the wheel rotates. Normally I'd go for CV joint but I can't feel anything through the wheel, and it's no worse on full lock - in fact it's a little quieter on full lock! Also the fact that the i-CTDi Accord is well known for breaking driveshafts - particularly the nearside (where my noise is coming from), so I'm thinking it may be that. Problem with that diagnosis is I've got no vibrations when accelerating or at 60-ish-mph which is normally one of the sure signs of driveshafts. So I've got no odd feelings, or vibrations or anything, just a knocking noise. I don't want to spend £300 getting my CV joint changed, or £600 getting my driveshaft changed, to find it's something else. Any of the mechanical wizards on here have any idea? Swampy442
Might be the inner CV joint? Is there any play in the wheel like a bearing? Wheel nuts all tight? (seen it before)
tbourner
I'm not a mechanical type, but my nuts are tight. No idea about 'play' in the wheel but wouldn't a bearing be noise all the time not just turning?
heckler
I'd say CV joint. I personally cant see how a drive shaft would cause a clonking sound, but can see why a CV would cause a vibration.
Lude
i thaught the drive shaft and CV were all one piece, or are they seperatable
straightsix
Jack up the car and shake the driveshaft. There should be no play or clunking or clicking. Apart from worn splines (or snapping) I can't see as there's 'owt else to go on a driveshaft. Also check suspension parts/balljoints etc.
tbourner
I'm pretty sure my noise is rear wheel (caliper) related now. Still not getting hot or owt though. //edit: More info on the other thread: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?259468-Rear-brakes-creaky Edited January 10, 2012 by tbourner (see edit history)
