What size should my whole be?????

Hi,

Got a restrictor ring off of Chris for the front down pipe replacement. So I don't boost past 1.2 bar.

Any way gave Chris some info that was passed on to me by the previous owner. Chris made a restrictor ring and I got it fitted. The car was boosting anywhere from 1.3 to 1.5 with an average of 1.35.

Anyway got the cat back on now.

But anyone got an idea how much smaller the hole should be to keep me around 1.2 bar. Do I need to start increasing the restrictor ring by millimetres or more?

Yep I know this is a long shot and I should talk to Chris again, just wondered what we think????

Cheers.

Just reread my post, sorry it's this new coffee!!!

Yeh basically how much smaller will the whole need to be to get 1.35 down to 1.2!!!

Say if the whole currently has a diameter of 10cm, do I need to reduce the whole by 5 mill for 0.15 reduction, 1cm etc.............

Chris supplied me with a ring and the boost is now spot on 1.2 max.

Without dissing the previous owner, may be the data given to Chris was not entirely accurate.

The formula for calculating the ring size will be comnplex.

I would ask Chris, he may make a smaller one that you can enlarge, if boost is too restricted.

AFAIK making holes smaller is a bit of a challenge;)

Yes I do have a boost controller that is set to 1.2.

With the cat on it is dead on 1.2 bar, always!!

It seems to over boost regardless of the boost controller being on or not.

Ah also just for the record I was trying to dis the previous owner or Chris as I new I had approx info form the owner which i was surppling to chris!!

Hi there,

With all due respect, I really don't know why you are trying to make life hard for yourself.

Graham told you not to fit the 1st ring because it overboosted to 1.65bar. We told you not to fit the ring because we could confirm what Graham said.

You now have a 2nd ring and are still fighting to get boost below dangerous levels.

You already have a boost controller on there. It gives an accurate, dead on 1.2 bar, all the time. No hassle. You can also bring boost down to 1 bar with it if you wish.

I can't work out what you are trying to achieve.

I'm not saying don't use Chris' 3rd ring but I'm just trying to work out why. Sure, you may reduce EGT's a little but they are not too high anyway. The main reason people go for de-catting is because it's a cheaper option than trying to get 1.2 bar with a boost controller, which you already have.

I've heard so much about this car overboosting that it honestly scares me for it's future longevity. Especially when theres no need for it.

Please don't take the above as a dig at anyone, but maybe I'm missing something here?

Cheers,

Nathan.

Your spot on Sir, why did I try and fix what ain't broke!!!

Well it's simple, I had the pipe there so I thought I would get it fitted!! Thought if anything it may sound better, which it did!!!

It's a bit of luck I did in the end as my cousin who fitted it had to strip out a whole load of bits and weld new studs in due to the thread being Fu**** on the originals, basically the exhaust was blowing a small amount.

Anyway from what Chris said, looks like im better off keeping the cat on there for ever more. (Cheers Chris!!!!!!)

As for the longevity of the car, the cat was of for one test drive only!!

Also the beastie hasn't drunk any oil in 2000 miles of ownership so im content.

Thanks for all the advice guys!!!

Well, thank the Lord that the thing hasn't fallen apart. Anyone would think that just one test drive without full diagnostic gear could bust an engine......

Honestly, glad to hear shes still OK.

Did I not say that I consulted God first, and asked him if he was going to screw me if I took the sup for one test drive!!!!!!

Well I did, and I can say, the big chief is true to his word!!!!

But cheers Nathan, the more sups in the world the better, ah!!!!
