Jellybean
The Datsun. Don't get me wrong - I do like the 370z but it doesn't do it for me like this 86 does. Thats ok, I dont like Datsuns either , but I would like to get a GTR Wasnt too sure if you hear the Toyota had out dated suspension
Tyson
What a disappointment but production cars very rarely look like their concepts
mr veilside
Looks like greddy have already got there hands on a 86 and have done some minor work to the car. Looks much better lowered and with nice rims.
Kirk
OK, latest rumours/info about the car: Toyota is working on a supercharger which should provide around 100bhp extra This was confirmed by an insider I have at Toyota this morning but they won't see the showrooms till 2013. Gazoo has taken the healm on the conversions and there have been talk of a Turbo charged model as well.

The engineers think it doesn't make for a fun car. You won't get super-wide wheels either for the same reason.
Kirk
Some one will do it one way or another but a supercharged variant should be very interesting.
Gaz6002
It will if it's developed as OEM with a warranty etc!
wile e coyote
I bet the subaru one gets the turbo variant
j_jza80
It also weighs significantly more, has a more dated suspension setup and isn't built half as well. I think it's a little premature to be deciding which one is better built the whole idea of the 'Toyobaru' was that it was supposed to be cheap, and it isn't. It won't be significantly better to drive than an MX5, which is £10k cheaper! Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the car (even with the tamed down looks) I'm not a fan of the price, it's far too expensive for what it is! It's a real shame as an affordable, sporty RWD coupe would sell well, unfortunately the manufacturers either don't have the balls or are too greedy. tkddav3
ahh well, still a nice lookng car imo but abit of a let down. i thought i was gonna be a cheap"ish" rwd car that could bring toyota back in the game. until i see one and drive one ill keep an open mind

I'm going with comments from several people that I know who've driven the car in both prototype and finished forms, and whose opinion I respect in a big way

Sheefa
There was a great article in Top Gear about this and the Subaru variant. I like the aftermarket kits for it. Will maybe scan article in. Good read. Performance isn't great but Subaru I believe are doing a tuned 2 litre turbo version.
Samurai 20V
http://www.trdparts.jp/english/2012_conceptcar/86performanceline.html TRD parts have been released, no supercharger as yet.. It looks pretty good... Liking the 6pot/4pot brakes. 2 Litre turbo version would be interesting.. I should be getting to drive this car in April, looking forward to that.. Then there's confirmation we're being ripped off in the £16.5k model that Japan are getting. If I were to buy one, I'd be waiting for a nearly new base model to appear in Japan. marc_p
I really am debating with this car, I desperately want to go down to Toyota and put a deposit down but the price is really holding me back, as once it's specced up with the Sat-Nav and TRD options I'm probably going to be looking at around £30 -31k. That puts into competition with a huge array of cars I like and I can't help thinking that I would get it then think that I could of had something much better for the same price. j_jza80
I bet its cheaper for Toyota and Subaru Plus, the Yanks will get a Scion badged version which will be dirt cheap. If you want a fun, light, RWD car for £30k buy a Ginetta, with the exception of safety and reliability it will be a much better car than this. ubersonic
Then there's confirmation we're being ripped off in the £16.5k model that Japan are getting. To be fair though, its not exactly well kitted out (or painted): http://images.pistonheads.com/nimg/25155/Toyota%2086%20base.jpg You get no air con, no stereo, no speakers, steel wheels and unpainted front/rear bumpers. So add to that £16.5k the cost of a full set of rims plus tyres, a complete ice install, and a body kit and you have the true price of it, although it is cool that people planning to change those things can start off with a budget car.
