The Road Warrior
Got one of these, awesome piece of kit for the asking price. Has the same sensor as the more expensive D80 but isn't the size of a breeze block Very responsive shutter/focus which will pretty much blow away all the compacts out there. Good luck with the sale! stevie_b
Slight hijack: what lens is the Sigma? Macro lens? If so I'll tap you up for suggestions on macro for my D5000.
Ian W
Spotted your FS thread over on talk photography. My current body and have to agree, it's a very good introductory camera as a first foray into the world of DSLRs. What you moved up to?
Lbm
Slight hijack: what lens is the Sigma? Macro lens? If so I'll tap you up for suggestions on macro for my D5000. In the absence of Graham tonight, it looks like a nice Sigma 10-20mm ultra wide angle lens. I have one on my 7D. Great for some landscapes and architectural shots. It's a nice lens for cars if you like the really close up/slightly distorted look. Good for freakish portraits too. Although, as it goes to 20mm, it's not a bad walk around lens. grahamc
Thanks Yes sigma 10-20. Lovely wide angle lens. It's a DX (cropped sensor) format so not great on my D3. As for macro, it depends on subject, I prefer flower and plant so absolutely love my old manual focus 55mm 2.8. Sharp and small!! I had a sigma 105, which was very good, but I did not get along with it. Well I am now using the D3 with 50mm 1.4 and 17-35 2.8 lenses. For everything else the Olympus ep1. Might be changing the ep1 for the Sony nex7, but waiting for the release.... Want to handle it to see if I like.

stevie_b
The 18-55mm Nikon kit lens (the basic lens that the cameras tend to ship with) is roughly £100 new, significantly less 2nd hand I would guess.

The reason for no kit lens, is because I never liked it. I would honestly go for a 50mm 1.8 (can be had for very cheap) for this camera, something like: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=388728

Ian W
How cheap is cheap? You need to be a member for the link to work It's sold anyway mate (also would have been manual focus only). A kit lens would be cheap to buy second hand for this, would give a decent focal range and auto-focus

Just comes down to the ££ and a kit lens should never be that difficult to sell on should an upgrade be required.
