AFAIK the RR is strictly a 5 seater? The X5 comes with 7 seats but is pretty rare to find a decent specced one (used). The Disco certainly comes with 7 seats but from comparing I prefer the rear seats of the Q7. It all boils down to this : Do you need the extra 2 seats? If you do I would recommend Q7 for overall compromise. I've test drove all (new disco and Volvo) but I liked the Q7 best over (comfort, tech, space, overall build quality feel). I wish I could afford the SLine which is simply sublime but I am pretty happy with the 2010 Q7 SE I have now.

If you don't need the 5 seats I would suggest the Range Rover Supercharged (other rangeys are alright but too old man feel for me). Nothing else comes close to fun and the genuine feel of quality and also very capable off road (I've tried those trick Terrain Response buttons). I know I'll probably get shot for saying this but the new Cayenne is pretty good too (onroad) :p

I have driven quite a few Q7's though none of the newer specs! (06-07), I found the 3.0 Diesel terrible around local town or driving spirited! Long motorway journey's are good & is a comfortable car to drive also. Interior is pretty nice, the back 2 seats are for children unless you are very small. The side wing mirrors are HUGE! Quite easy to park even though it is quite a long car! Rubbish off road, good & comfy on road. The electric rear closing boot is nice & the huge boot is even better!

The Range Rover Sport is a great car though, I have driven quite a few of these also! The 2.8TDi's are a bit slow but the larger V8 diesels are a great! The super charger version is such a hoot to drive, it's not a stupidly quick car, but if you floor it from a standstill it just flings you forward! The sound on start up is like a supercar, the interior is nicer too.

If you need 7 seats, get a Q7.

If you don't get a Range Rover Sport.

If you want fun, get a Cannye Turbo.

Personally I'd get a 7 seater estate!

looking on the net and it appears both q7 and range rover not the best in snow. ??

I'm talking about a proper Rangey and not a Sport, mate. I just flick my suspension to maximum ride height, press the snow button and it will push 30-inches of snow out of the way.

Sorry, but I still think Q7's should be used for Challenger Tank practices only.

The vogue is a different beast all together, you can change drivers whilst on the move that's how much room you have!

Off roading on it is great & the best bit? You can set the Vogue to be quite high which is perfect around here in London as they no longer give parking tickets they just lift cars off the road & you have to pay £260 to get it back. I'll try & find the video of where I left the car on max height & watched (from my friend's flat) as they tried to lift the car onto the truck, it wobbled a little & they put it slowly back down.

:D

Curious, what's a "proper" rangey? As far as I know the only proper off roader is the LAND Rover Defender. I would love to see a video of your Range Rover pushing 30 inches of snow btw :)

Q7 is not a off roader by any means. It is just a posh big 4x4 which can occasionally seat 7. The rear seats are not great but its the best I've encountered so far as an adult (bar Renault Grand Espace but that's not a 4x4).

Range Rover Supercharged is definitely my choice if I didn't need the occasionaly 7 seats. I am not sure about other RR variants as I've only test drove the Supercharged.

The discovery is pretty good as well, infact the Vogue is good too.

The Range Rover Sport is the least best out of the lot but it can still do this.

I have taken it a bit off road & apart from poor ground clearance it isn't too bad at all.

BMW X5, Audi Q7 & Porsche Cayenne are pretty poor at off roading though!

Yea, can't deny for off roading Land/Range Rover definitely have it in the genes...

However, for me I don't do any off roading (well maybe 1-2 times a year in the countryside but that's during summer!!!) and I almost never have to tow anything too (I hate those ball tow joints sticking out from a car...). So far a 7 seater choice I guess Q7 is the best I can get :p

as far as I can tell the OP never requested to get opinions on whether the 4x4 was any good off road and Im not sure but I doubt his missus will be doing too much off roading??

Overall I personally wouldnt buy a british car and therefore the Range rover sport was not an option, I do like the look of them but just preffered the Q7 for my requirements and no the back seats were not really a major factor even though they do come in handy from time to time and they are 'proper' full size seats

Looks wise imo the facelift Q7 s-line knocks the socks off a range rover sport

Of course each to their own though

I see quite a few of all of the above cars, and have driven them all. Next to my garage is a bakery, which the owner has just bought a white, 3.0TDI Q7 S-Line. Brand spanking new, in white with 21" black wheels! The 3.0 is a good solid engine, seen it for many years is all the other cars Audi do (A6 etc), never had to do much more than routine servicing etc. Although cambelts are someting else! They need a computer to adjust the injector pump timing as it's impossible by eye. He had a 4.6 V8 X5 before. Went like stink but really dated now.

Personal opinion.. I think you made the right choice, Jurgen. Yes, you can get a 7 seater ML but they suffer gearbox issues. Don't think BMW do a 7 seater X5. I really do like the Volvo XC90. But overall, money no object, the Q7 is a far superior, better looking car. His Q7 has the screen, so when you reverse shows you where the car is going and as you turn the wheel shows you where you will end up! Yes it's a big car but if the misses is careful she'll be fine with it.

So, all thats left to be said is what toys has it got??? :)

Yes they do but very very rare :) Well rare used anyway.

All Q7s has a screen but the reverse camera is an optional extra at around 200 quid if I remember correctly. Definitely a worthwhile investment as those lines really help!

will do once i have it picked up am sure if you sell your 2010 se you can get an 06/07 s line lol

One big bonus (for me) about the S-line is the 7 speed gearbox. My SE box is great but I am pretty sure I can get even more mpg from the 7 speed box :D I get around 35 mpg motorway and around 25 urban on my Q7. The V12 Diesel Q7 would be my dream machine lol but that is insanely expensive. Have you seen the torque on that beast??? :)

Cool, never seen one, they don't seem to have the rear 'boot' space to have room for extra seats!

It does help alot, makes it simple to park for such a long car. Those crazy lines on the screen are very acurate!

Yes they are a super smooth box.. But the V12?? would you be happy with your Mrs driving one? Probably the same with 99% of us men. They would never use 75% of what it's got. The 5.0 V10 diesel is pretty special too. But not had the chance to have a go yet :(

I think 35 is a bloody good figure to be getting, especially in something that big. Most newer diesels don't get the MPG older diesels do so to have a good compromise between good power/MPG is a result.

Mine's a 6 speed auto mate. AFAIK the S-Lines comes with 7 speed box but you will need to double check on this. I could be wrong but I think only 09+ Sline Q7s comes with 7 speed box??? Dont get me wrong though the 6 speed box is still amazing. :)

haha yeah, I was trying to get the most out of it :p You will need to set the suspension to "Dynamic" though as I noticed the lowered height DOES make a diff in fuel economy. It was a long, straigh, boring stretch of road but I am kind of suprised when the DIS showed almost 35mpg which is more than official figures!
