Marty
So i've got myself a new ps3, and have set it up in my front room, it is wired to the router. I decided to give the ps3 a quick blast, on black ops, first game was ok, bit laggy, then i had connection problems, the ps3 kept saying the connection had been cut and dropped me out of the games, it was also a challenge to find any game lobbies to join i noticed. I've done a bit of a search on google and found a few people who have had similar issues and its down to the router and ports or something, but i've not found any definitive answers that a non IT man could fix The router is a Belkin n300 like this ... http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.209-8187.aspx Has any one experienced anything similar when they've upgraded their router and tried gaming? And if so, whats the easiest fix? My pc is also wired to the router and i experience no issues whatsoever with it, so its defiantly a ps3 - router issue. Muchas gracias in advance
ScottC
Go to 'Internet settings' and then 'Internet connection test' if you have a wired connection you should have a NAT Type of 1. As far as I know you only need to open the ports if your using a LAN connection.
Scott
The easiest fix is to remove the firewall between your PS3 and the router. If you want to do this simply setup your PS3 with a static IP. To do that you go into network, network settings and then select "custom" rather than easy. Leave everything as default other than the IP and the other settings on the same page. If your Router IP is 192.168.1.1 then setup your PS3 with the following... IP - 192.168.1.200 subnet - 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1 DNS Server - 192.168.1.1 Firstly, see if the above helps you. If it doesn't, connect to your router via your PC browser (192.168.1.1 eg). Look for security settings and more specifically firewall. See if there is a DMZ option, if there is type in the IP address you just set your PS3 with and apply the settings... give it another go. If you don't have the DMZ option you can turn off your firewall altogether. I would only do this as a test though, to see if it solves your issues. Once you have determined that it does or doesn't, turn it back on. If it solves your issues you need to find which ports are in use and forward them to the PS3 IP. Scott
What router do you have? Make sure uPNP is turned on. That will allow the PS3 to connect directly. Make sure uPNP is turned on both on your router and your PS3.
Marty
Some useful info here if needed http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/connecttest.html Thanks buddy What router do you have? After fiddling around with it, and the ip addresses etc it seems to be behaving itself now, i've managed to dish out plenty lead butties to cyber soldiers without a single disconnection So hopefully all sorted now, thanks for the help guys, as always, it's much appreciated
