Attero
I wasn't going to post this as it's rather short story, but it keeps playing with my mind and annoying me. The other day I parked up on the high street of a local town to get myself some Dominoes. As I order, I do what I normally do and hang outside where my car is in view. It caught my attention immediately when I noticed an old Jaguar (one of the old ugly ones that nobody cares about) reversing into a space that was half the size of his car in front of mine. I start to walk down to him when I stop to find out the car in front of him was moving out and his reverse lights turn off. I thought, "ahh, think he knows where to go from here" but I stand idly by to make sure. Then suddenly, his reverse lights come back on and smack, right into the front of my Supra and pushing the poor girl up on her brakes. "Right that is it..." I go down and knock on his window and a posh guy in his late 50's, early 60's winds down his window. "You just knocked my car!"... he responds with an unexpected, "oh c'mon, it's only your numberplate" to which point I turned red and shouted "well that's not the f*****g point is it!". I cannot believe people think like this. He and his wife got out the car after moving forward (as it was still on it's brakes), and we all had a look to find their was no damage and the number plate was fine. Thankfully, a ridge on his bumper was at the same level as the top of the numberplate, so it didn't snap it or cause any harm to the paintwork. What got me was the guy having no respect for other peoples property. And made me think, if he didn't, then what about everyone else? What happens to the car when it's left alone everyday in some place or another? Supra's are big cars to park but I have never had a problem with parking it. This guy has clearly had a long history of experience more than myself, so he should be able to park a bloody car.
Havard
This is no surprise. I have OCD when it comes to parking and condition of cars. All three of our cars asre in really good condition and it would drive me potty if they pick up car parking dings. I try wherever possible to park the car away from other people. Touch wood it has not happened to me yet but i am unsure how I would react. My dad had a cracker at Dover a few years ago in his Renault Megane. A guy in an old BM pulled up along side in the queue for the ferry, he flung his door open putting a 3" crease in my dad's passenger door. My dad got out and had a word with the bloke. He said "It's a car park, it happens..!!" and walked off with his wife into the terminal. I asked my dad what he did and he said "Nothing.!". I would have gone mental and put my foot into every panel in the car if someone would have been so blaise about the damage they had caused. I have two young kids and when we are getting out of the car near other peoples they know to wait for me to open the door as they might damage other peoples cars. I see people carriers full of kids where the kids even kick the doors open with no regard for the car next door. H.
Josh
I'd have taken advantage of him being an elderly gentleman (and less likely to do anything) and kick his car somewhere and when he asks what I'm doing, just say "it's not left any damage". Some people are ridiculous. I'd hate for this to happen to me.
Benjy
I had a dozy bint in a volvo reverse into the front of the Supra. Her argument was "my parking sensors didn't beep!" I lost the plot. I replied with "THEY'RE A PARKING AID, THEY DON'T F*****G DO IT FOR YOU! IT'S NOT AS IF YOU COULDN'T SEE IT, IT'S HUGE!!!!" She then made matters worse by saying "it is a beautiful car", to which I said, "IT WAS!!!". It was almost as if because her car wasn't damaged, the fact that the front end of my car had been destroyed wasn't all that important. Then she tried to claim knock for knock, even though I was 20ft away when she hit it!!!!!!!!!! I'm positive that if I hadn't been that close to it, she'd have driven off. I've had the same thing where an elderly woman smashed into the back of old Escort. She refused to get out as there was "no damage". So little damage infact, her insurance company payed out £475 cash in leiu for the damage. Some people should be culled. Graham1984
There are people in France that leave their handbrakes off so people just push them out the way with their cars when they want to park. Like you guys I would rather park out the way of any living creature and walk further (even if the distance is larger than from when I left my house to destination!) So many idiots out their it makes me want to buy and old heap and go round doing the same to everyone as they seam eager to do..... Parking and getting out a car.. It's not rocket science. The Raven
These things happen I see little point in going off on one at these people. End of the day swearing and Shouting at some old sod that pranged your car isnt going to fix it is it. The lad that wrote my Mrs car off a few months back (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?254926-18-yearold-mums-polo-My-Mrs-car-SMASH&highlight=mrs)couldnt say sorry enough as soon as he was out of his car, even when i was holding the Mrs head straight for the paras i didnt lose the plot on him what was the point? He made a mistake, he wrote the car off and hurt my other half badly. However it was a mistake, we all make them. IMO you go ape over a numberplate or bump in a car park i would say you need to chill out.

He was in no way intimidated or felt uncomfortable with the way I spoke to him. You have to be there to appreciate how I felt and understand how I reacted. The difference was, this guy wasn't sorry. Abz
I know what you mean, it is so annoying, respect seems to be a thing of the past these days. Parents seem to be the worst, and it may sound harsh but I wish more parents were like Havard. Where the children wait until parents get out of the car to open the door then them jumping straight out swinging the door open. I have seen it several times & cringe each time I see it & other cars being hit. As you said, if the guy apologised then fine you'd be fine about it as it was a mistake. tkddav3
i had a new shape suzuki swift for my first car, only 6 months old and left it in my old college car park. got home after the day n washed it to notice a huge dent in the passenger door, paint work was chipped and scratched from the force of some complete wa****s door! i managed to get the scuffs out but the dent and chipped paint was game over. never found out who it was. sadly the car got written off when it was about 2yrs old. when the axles are bent and the roof caved in that little dent no longer mattered.. Have found a rather noticeable stone chip on the bonnet though... wandered how long it take for the new paintwork to be ruined. God dammit. They guy who ran into your wife apologised, which counts for a lot. The guy who knocked Havard's dad's door didn't. Same with almost anything in life. If someone walks into you on the pavement, whether they apologise or not affects the situation greatly.
