pistonbroke
Budget is 20k, has to be a derv burner, I've narrowed it down to the following 3. Feel free to suggest other stuff too. BMW 535/530d http://www.carpictures1.com/data/media/43/BMW_1024x768_12_535d_349_.jpg Mercedes c220d http://image.motortrend.com/f/auto-review/2008-mercedes-benz-c220-cdi-sport-driving-gently-toward-2020/10346350+cr1+re0+ar1/2008-mercedes-benz-c220-cdi-sport-front-view.jpg Jaguar xf
SupraAyf
My choice would be the Jag since the others are driven by w...nk.....s.
SUPRALAND
Bmw nothing else! The 535d is easy to tune, very powerfull, and easy to sell.
Abz
If I had to choose between them 3 I'd go with the Jag too, the interior & cabin on them are lovely. Take it the criteria is a family saloon? Will it be driven daily? Then I could give you other suggestions too.
ripped_fear
I got the opportunity to drive the full twin turbo diesel version of the BMW and loved it and as for the jag I have heard many good things. My godfather had the old xj in diesel and loved it and it still felt quick in comparison to his old supercharged jag he had before it. IMO it would be beetween them two I wouldn't even second take the merc! you pay for the badge, build quality on them is poor.

Geo
Now thats a nice motor, all ready for the winter up there Geo? Kinda, just need to teach Lins how to drive the feker now.
Abz
I would highly recommend a Mercedes M Class like Geo's though the interior doesn't feel as expensive as it use to. Also a couple of other recommendations: Mercedes CLS Range Rover Sport (though you have to pray its a good one) Audi A6
sideexitsupra
Would go for the 535 every time. Try and find a SE instead of M Sport if ride comfort is important. Spent some in a 5 series and really liked it. Looked at the XF earlier this year and thought it felt a little cramped for space, even though it isn't. Also hate the fake exhausts on these. Check the full spec on a C class as it varies widely I have a C250 diesel and spent a few days in a C220 when I had a problem after 3 weeks!! The 220 is pretty gutless in comparison and will be miles behind the other 2. It will do over 50mpg though if that's important. I am lucky to have the facelift version and the interior quality is much better than the older ones. By the way, even though I say so my self, I'm not one to self pleasure. They all drive Audis now anyway.

Scott
XF for me. I would fancy a test drive in them first as it would be between the XF and the BMW for me. I would rather have the XF but if the BM was the better drive, noticeably, then I would have to go for it instead.
Havard
XF all day for me. The BMW is a lovely drive but the prestige of the Jag would be my undoing..!!
Littler
Out of the 3 I'd go for the jag without a doubt! And have the 'S' model of which engine you go for.
ellis
Jag here too. The engine has had some rave reviews as well. As good as the Beemers are, the kudos of the Jag, plus the engine, would win it each time.
jonathanc
wow so many votes for Jag... just a little surprised as I am pretty sure I've read in the TG mag that they suffer from reliability problems. I would personally go for the 535d for that fun factor

jonathanc
Topgear says the Jag is more fun to drive Could be lol... Jag does look more modern as I really think the 5 series desperately needs a refresh as it looks dated... However, the 535d has an amazing engine. VERY tunable. Swampy442
Not really an Audi fan but would have to be an A6 or A8 tdi. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A8-Saloon-TDI-Quattro-SE-Tip-SAT-NAV-DAB-FSH-/330642184955?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4cfbcf5afb http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-Audi-A8-3-0-V6-TDi-Sport-Quattro-Auto-Tip-Tronic-Only-46-000-/320794790080?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4ab0dc08c0 Is it a company car or personal, are residuals important?
