ashbuster
hey guys ive had a few probs with this cheap gauge i bought £50 ebay mainly the connections on the back of the gauge anyway sometimes the gauge turns on when i start the engine then drops right to the bottom but now i got it working its sitting about here in park http://s998.photobucket.com/albums/af103/ashbuster/?action=view¤t=Video0014.mp4 heres a little vid reason im asking is to make sure the gauge is ok now or needs sending back also i have a jap spec which is decatted and i thought it sends it way over 1 bar and i thought you needed a boost controller to lower the boost and i have no boost controller at all on it, and no fuel cut defender any reasons why it hasnt gone above 1 bar with the decat? thanks guys
dan294
Is it a double decat or single decat? On mine with the first Cat in, it never used to go about 1 bar. The gauge looks pretty OK to me, I had a similar one in my old Impreza P1. Not the best, but worked ok...
dan294
Check that the thin capillary pipe isn't kinked or anything from under the bonnet to the back of the gauge. It should move about below zero bar when revved at standstill.
ashbuster
not sure mate havent been under the car and too dark now i know there isnt one in the middle anywhere i didnt realize these had 2 cats when i bought it in the listing on here it said chris wilson decat i take it that theres a restrictor ring thats limiting it to 1 bar? and to increase this i just buy a manual boost controller and fcd Edited November 17, 2011 by ashbuster (see edit history)
dan294
There is the first cat from the turbos, and then another cat a bit further down the exhaust. You should be able to tell if its a decat by looking just after the second Turbo. If its a straight pipe, its a decat, if it looks like an exhaust silencer (kind of), its a cat. As I say, with my first cat still in, just after the second Turbo, it would only make 1 bar. That was with a second decat as well.

dan294
First cat looks like this in the red square. If it has a CW decat though, it probably has a 1 bar restrictor ring in as well, if it wont boost over 1 bar. Hope that helps!
ashbuster
nice one mate thanks for that pik if it does have a restrictor ring to 1 bar then to increase it i can do it with a manual boost controller and fcd carnt i mate? or would that restrictor ring have to be removed first? If funds allow, an electronic boost controller is best I believe, although the manual ones are OK. I'm happy enough with mine as is though! No boost controller fitted! Pretty sure with a boost controller you could do, you need a fuel cut defender so it doesn't hit fuel cut over 1 bar; I'd email Chris Wilson to be safe though. The restrictor ring is best left in place so you don't get overboost. I think Chris does them in 1 bar and 1.2 bar sizes anyway, they're only about £15 if that
ashbuster
nice one mate didnt know if they were welded in or not ahh i just re-read the bpu for some crazy reason i thought they come stock at 1bar but they dont its 0.75 bar Edited November 17, 2011 by ashbuster (see edit history)
dan294
Nah, the restrictor ring normally fits after the first decat, inbetween that and the next section of exhaust down. They're removable!
