CJ
I've got a problem with my PC when trying to connect to the interwebnet. Sky connected me on the 15th but failed to supply a router (it should ve here in about 5 days) and so I thought I would use a second hand router to connect with. It is a Netgear DG834g and is the same one this machine was connected to out in Kos with no issues at all. When I try to connect it tells me windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter and if there is one then I need to reinstall the driver. I've looked under device manager and no network adapter is showing there and im now stuck as to what to try next. All the lights are on at the router and so that tells me the hardware and cable is ok. It is running windows 7 and is a desktop pc
Heyrick
Doesn't sound like the router is the problem - is the network adapter (where you plug the cable in on the computer) part of the motherboard or is it a seperate card plugged in? If a seperate card you could try taking it out and reseating it in case it shifted during transit. HTH
stevie_b
What Heyrick said. In addition, you *might* need to install a driver for the network adapter. If it's built-in to the motherboard, look at the PC manufacturer's website. If it's an expansion card look at the card manufacturer's website. CJ
I tried looking at it to ensure it was seated properly and it looked ok. I was thinking it needed a driver install too but I didn't get my disks sent back the same time as the PC and as I cannot access the net downloading from there is also out. Methinks it is time to take it to the local PC shop for them to have a looksee.
Digsy
Network adaptors and only a few quid aren't they? You could just buy a new one which would come with the drivers and not have to pay someone at the computer shop over the odds to find and install the drivers for yours (unless they are feeling charitable and do it as a freebie). stevie_b
CJ, if you let me know the make and model of card (if it is an expansion card) then I can download the driver for you and send it to you on a CD. If it's integrated into the mobo then let me know the make/model of PC.
CJ
I decided to have another look at the seating of the adapter and this time took it out and refitted it. Lo and behold, it worked! So, another call to Sky ensued only to be told that they could not help me as I didn't have a Sky router! Of course it isn't a Sky router - you still haven't delivered that one!!!! Anyway, with everything else going on in my life I guess this really isn't a biggy so I will have to wait. Thanks for your help folks - much appreciated.
