mrmyagiii
Hello, i have 3 spare headlights laying around here. How can tell wich is for left hard driven or for right hand driven? And is it possible to convert them to whatever side u need them to be? I want to take them apart anyway to repolish and respray them. Hellstrom
Hi! yes when taking them apart the projector culiss you will be able to see what way the light is going. look at my pictures second post first pics are all about headlights. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?258074-Hellstrom-supra-project. to modify them you need to mirror match them from their current look. mrmyagiii
so its the internals from the projectors that are different. I can`t see how grinding them can change the angle for now but that might become a bit more clean when i take mine a part. Thnx for the advise. EMPEROR
The sockets for the bulbs are different, that's for sure. The glass/plastic should also be different I think. Take a pic of each and post it here.
Hellstrom
Same glass i terms of design hb4hb3 for euro and hb3x2 for j-spec also all plastic are j-spec Euro spec can be both lhd and rhd. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=57.712608,11.854407 Edited November 16, 2011 by Hellstrom (see edit history)
mrmyagiii
I had Jspecs before 1 got damaged. Wich where for RHD. is that even possible or did someone fiddle with them to make it RHD?
Hellstrom
You meen you had j- spec. But they where okay for lhd? Since all j-spec are rhd. But yeah either they Did as i and modified the projector inserts or they changed the inserts for lhd. It not hard to do just abit fiddle --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=57.776797,12.144350
mrmyagiii
I have J-spec headlights laying around, wich are okay for LHD. But 2 of them are for LHD and 1 is for RHD (wich my car came with from uk). So i`m trying to find out wich of the 3 are LHD to refurb them
Hellstrom
take them apart remove the projector lens and when you find 2 inserts that is matching you have found the LHD converted ones.
CanisLupus
Can you get the Inserts/Lenses needed for the conversion on their own?
Hellstrom
Don't think you could actually buy the inserts alone from Mr T, would be damaged second hand ones in that case. its really not hard to do anyway. its Cast aluminum so its pretty soft is easy to grind. or if you wanna open your wallet and just buy the real deal
CanisLupus
I could grind them but as they are testing the lighting at the MOTs here in Germany i don't know if i can get it 100% right :\ I'd sell the UKs and get LHD ones but i'd want Facelifts which once again would be a MOT failure
Hellstrom
They test the Lights here in sweden aswell. you modify the inserts to get it to pass MOT, making the lights shine less on the left side and more on the right side. Aslong as you dont take to much and making the steps to huge there is really no problem. aslo before MOT you should adjust the lights anyway for height. Should be no problem i can't of guarantee anything it worked for me. you could get OEM legal facelift ones. buy a set of facelift chop up a LHD lights get the inserts from the LHD and put in the facelift lights. job done
CanisLupus
That's what i'm thinking about ^^ Do you have some pictures of the grinded inserts maybe?
Hellstrom
Second post in this thread is a link to my project thread, second post in the project thread is about how i modified my lights.

mrmyagiii
i still can`t see how grinding could change the lights from shining to the right side of the road instead of the left side :S. I always want to know what i`d be doing and why before i start on anything
CanisLupus
When you grind the Insert the beam is projected in the right way. It's not a thing of moving the beam it's just how high the light gets on either side. As far as i understand after grinding you just set the lights a little lower to compensate for the grinding. mrmyagiii
Really? i always thought that RHD lights shine more to the left and LHD shine more to the right side? But what your saying is the only difference is the height of each beam?

But what your saying is the only difference is the height of each beam? Projector lights= the insert decided if its a LHD or RHD. you need to modify the insert and then adjust the lights aswell using either a garage or another car. park both cars on the same distance away from a wall and make sure that your beams pretty much match the other cars beam (that you know for certain is legal/moted) in terms om height and how much it lights to the left/right side. Not to be grumpy but did you honestly read everything. 1, grind the inserts 2,fit the lights adjust the height/wide 3, job done.
mrmyagiii
Yep did read everything. Didn`t take headlights apart just yet thats why i probably cant figure out how this works in theory. I saw your thread and did see the inserts wich u grinded. Will take them apart this saturday i guess to just get this over with haha
