Help me choose: Audi A1 or BMW 1 Series or something else? + VT'ing cars

Evening all,

Looking for car advice and thought this is a good a place as any!

I'm getting rid of the Civic Type R and looking to get a sensible every day low milage small car (Mrs has finally said I can get another Supra in the new year for play time).

I'm looking for something new, cheap to run but a decent brand (I'll be getting a PCP so need a decent resale value) and want to keep payments below £300 p/m. I have been looking at the Audi A1 (small boot but cheap to run) or a BMW 1 series (new shape) and wouldn't mind looking at the Astra GTC when it is released. Does anyone have any experience of these cars? - Any comments good or bad?

Also, Audi have suggested that I can just 'return' my car to the finance company without being criticised for it. Apparently it is called 'VT'ing'. Has anyone else ever done this? - I'm surprised I can do it.

VT = Voluntary Termination

At the 50% point of your finance agreement you can just hand it back, if you're in negative valuation, on the premise the car is maintained, good condition, etc.

The way to do it, I've heard, is to get your new agreement sorted before you VT. It doesn't affect your credit rating, but might internally affect you with the finance co.

And if you're getting a 1 series, get a 123d and remap it (or a 135i if you're feeling flush!)
