Dragonball
Had a very dodgy sounding call from Microsoft (obviously from Mombai etc) saying that my computer was sending error messages to Microsoft (as I have a genuine copy etc) I asked him to confirm my IP address and email me with the details and explain to me my recognition code He wanted me to go on the computer and he will be able to show me - but all sounded too dodgy so lobbed him off... Is there a tracking log of sent messages to Microsoft? Anything esle I should look for? All antivirus looks ok as far as I can see Cheers for any advice
jonathanc
Well sounds dodgy to me. If you go to your PC I bet he will ask you to download a "dianogstic" file or something (which could contain a nasty trojan to steal all your info). I use genuine MS products all my life and never had a call like that!
imi
Whatever you do don't give anyone access to your pc

Terminator
Free phone tech support from Microsoft. May be Bill's gone soft in the head.
Abz
Microsoft will never call you about your computer, the logs they get from you help them better understand the product on mass usage. Helps them iron out any issues & also patch security updates. It is more for their information & research than support. If he calls again, say "that's odd I work for Microsoft! Can I get your name to look you up?".
KamaSupra
I was warned about this dodgy Microsoft phone call at work yesterday. My advice is to just hang up if they call you
sideexitsupra
I had a call about 6 months ago. Asked them loads of questions, instead of the other way round. Eventually they gave me a website to check. Using my iPhone I browsed to the site and guess what, it was not a Microsoft one despite having Microsoft in the URL. Told him to hold on for a minute. Went off and carried on doing what I was doing before. I do wonder how long he held on for before hanging up?
