jonathanc
Hopefully someone could explain to me what's going on here Basically my router stats is showing around 7884 kbps downstream. However, whenever I try to run a Speedtest.net test on my desktop the max I every get was around 1800 kbps... Can anyone tell me what is wrong here? I suspect might be something to do with my desktop but I just can't figure out what!
edinlexusV8
Are you on wireless? Do you have other computers/devices connected to the router?
Scott
Speedtest can be pretty unreliable at times. This isn't an exact science either but it can give a good idea....... start downloading iTunes 10 from the apple website. See what speed you hit there
edinlexusV8
I think your router syncs at the right speed you are on. This will be the max you will get. Downloading and uploading stuff from servers can be slow. Also the distance between the server and the client also matter as you have to go through a few gateways and switches. jonathanc
I think I've found the culprit lads! I've been using Dynamic DNS on my sky router (dyndns) and by disabling it I've found my speeds back to normal It was strange as torrent speeds normal but browser speeds aint but I am happy it got fixed now BTW, good site to test your download speeds (within browser) http://www.btopenworld.com/speedtest The large file took around 5 seconds to download (at average speed of 930Kbps so around 1MB/s download speed) so I am well chuffed! Btw these are my router stats if anyone's interested I know its not great but believe me, after months of struggling to get over 4.5mbps I am really happy with what I've got now! Downstream Upstream Sync Rate: 8216 Kbps 1062 Kbps Max Rate: 8572 Kbps 1148 Kbps Attenuation: 43 dB 24 dB SNR Margin: 7 dB 7 dB

ADSL2+ is nice hoping in the near future I could have either cable or fibre here... Still noticed that my browser speeds are in bursts so might trouble by changing the dodgy ethernet cable and maybe look into getting a better network card I have the need for speeeeeed!
