tomgeer
Does anyone know how much a c reg series 1 rs turbo is worth as a project car?, it's in average condition (needs welding up underneath, interior abit scruffy but runs okay, some panels need replacing)? I am thinking of buying one local to me for a full restoration and then flogging it but he wants offers around £1000, is that too much? Any ideas on values, how hard parts are to come by etc? The rs turbo is the one car (based on realistic budgets) i've always wanted but never owned at some point.
Jamesy
A grand is a bargain if its all straight mate. The series 1 is a proper collectors car now id love one as my daily car. Sounds like a good project to me dude ....
add heywood
Decent low milage ones go for £7k+... Had one myself (and a cabriolet coversion), parts are still readily available from places and they still have a cult following. Only problem I found is that second hand parts are no longer second hand, more like 4th or 5th hand nowadays... edit - £11,995 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCORT-RS-TURBO-SERIES-1-1-OWNER-NEW-/280736976415?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item415d3a4e1f
Swampy442
Its a very good price, depending on how much work it needs underneath. Pics
mwilkinson
That's a steal at that cost. If it runs etc.. Any pictures?

Scott
Bargain, these cars are so rare now. They are rot boxes so expect a lot of work but if you get it mint it'll be worth a fortune.

I was a blue oval fan for years before getting the supra, lost touch with prices but 11k for a minter I can say is realistic as they are getting rarer. Guest Supra_boy
they are definately getting rarer and when mint, there worth a tidy profit. buy it ;]
mwilkinson
Very easy cars to work on. My brother shell stripped one of these. Bought a referb shell and rebuilt it in a day on his mates drive. Passed an MOT the next day and was driven around Ireland for two weeks without issue. Selling it was one of the worst things he has ever done. dan294
I've had 2 Series 2's, dead easy to work on, and a grand for an S1 is a steal, even if it does need work!! Get it bought, they're a hoot to drive!!

jagman
I had one new when they first came out , one of the first 100 made , my mate got a 16v golf at the same time - the Golf was better! , had torque steer big time , they first limited to 5000 cars , then produced 2500 more , flogged mine as I never thought they would be worth much - how wrong was I? jagman
I cant understand the appeal - they werent that good , power on out of a roundabout the steering just locked , the exhaust baffles fell out of mine within 18 mounts , the brakes kept going out with hot spots , and it went back to ford at least a dozen times windows jammed , engine idle problems , I could never keep up with my mates 944 in any department and it never went wrong
Scott
It's just an icon. Alfas are hardly well known for their solid build quality and reliability but they are great cars to drive for their spirit and character.

I agree, they just have a presence about them, stunning looks and stance, the one i'm going to look at now isn't what i'd call stunning but I'll have a poke around and see if it's got potential (my brother will have a lot more idea than me so he's coming with me). I work as a welder fabricator so that's got to help me get it back on the road.
Benjy
I had a mk3 escort convertible (series 1 shape), 1.9 American tall block, cossie management etc. was awesome! Only reason I got rid, rag tops need strengthening when there's 290bhp or they twist. Where abouts is this one based? I know of another one, slightly rotten, for a grand. Possibly the same one! tomgeer
Well, I didn't buy the car , it was just a bit too far gone for me after spending a bit more time inspecting it. The car had also been in a front ender at some point so I wasn't prepared to pay £1000 for a car that may have a twisted chassis. None of the front body panels lined up properly. Seller was very honest but wasn't prepared to let it go for less than £1000 which is fair enough (looks like it's worth that) but I wouldn't have paid more than £600 for it, I offered that and he rejected it. It's going on ebay soon.
