Billet mains and line boring.

Here's a few questions for the engine builders amongst us.

I work in a precision machine shop and don't think I would have any problem getting it done I'm just wanting to know a few things first.

Do billet mains come with oversized/thicker main bearings?

Whats the tolorence on the hole size for line boring?

Roughly how much material requires to be removed?

I assume no material is taken out of the crank bearing seats on the block itself it will just be the caps?

Has anyone seen this done?

Depending on how much material needs to come out will odviously determain what sort of tooling ill use wether it will be a twin edge, single point boring bar or a reamer. Just want to get my head around it all before I jump in at the deep end as its going to have to be done on a night shift in 1 hit.

Any info/advice would be great.

Cheers

John

Have a look on youtube as theres a few videos of line boring which is done on

specialist machinary and not your run of the mill machining centers etc.

Single point boring bars supported at both ends

Supported at both ends???

Are we talking a bar with a tip in the centre instead of on the end.

I'll do some YouTube digging over the weekend Dunk. Cheers dude.
