caseys
There's a new HTC coming soon. Ville I think. That's decent spec, the iPhone 4S has 8mb pixel and is spritely... That. Don't think I'll be getting a iPhone for several reasons: screen, reliability, connectivity etc. I have you down as a sane rational person so can I ask for examples? Screen quality is one of the best. If you're worried about fragility I'd say people breaking them are just not careful of their possessions. Had iPhones since the 1st Gen, prior to that a huge Nokia, SE and Moto fan, I cannot say I've had any reliability issues myself. A friend had a modem issue, one's had an aerial issue but as with most faults, you'll generally find people only write reviews/posts when they have something wrong - when it's business as usual hardly anyone writes 'nothing to see here' Connectivity - we talking to 3rd party devices etc? Mass storage use or something? Not against the HTC stuff, I think it's lovely, not played with the S2 yet, but would just like to hear your justification of the points
Gaz6002
I have you down as a sane rational person so can I ask for examples? Sure thing Screen: it smashes. I lead an extremely active life these days and any phone I get can't be fragile in that respect. My Blackberry has a pretty robust case on it for that reason. Reliability: of the seven people I work with, three have iPhones. Right now, one of them works properly. That's just an example, but a lot of my friends complain about problems. As above, I need something that won't break all the time. Connectivity: I don't use Apple products if I can avoid it, and when I do it rarely does what I want it to do. My Blackberry is as easy to connect to a new device as just plugging it in. I hate iTunes too, which is why I haven't updated my iPod for four years
jonathanc
I had a play with the Samsung Galaxy S2 and I must say I am very impressed. The display is stunning (bigger screen helps I guess) and it indeed feels much more responsive compared to my old HTC Desire. However, the size is too big for my liking. I don't watch movies on mobile and rarely play games. iPhone 4 fits my bill as I mostly use my mobile as a phone (surprise surprise!) and as a smartphone (FB, Twitter etc...). I would love the 4S but not sure if I can justify the price.

I did a drop test the other day in the office to show my colleagues how well built it is. The only other phone I'd be tempted to do that is on my S2 as it weighs nothing (feels cheap too). My colleague broke his iPhone 4 screen recently & that was due to him dropping it at height accidentally. Hit the concrete & the screen smashed but he still was able to use it till he got a replacement screen few weeks later for £40!

Hmmm, reliability I would say most people unfortunately that have unreliability on them is self-inflicted, esp people who go 'yeah i jailbroked my phone lol' and completely mess something up. Heck I had 4 people who last month were taking back their iphone because it was a 'brick' and yet oh ... 15 seconds and I'd got it working for them as they didn't even know how to restart it. Understood on the connectivity front then. You journos are all techno phobic I recommend you this. You could probably drop it on the track and it'd still survive. http://www.reghardware.com/2011/04/15/review_sonim_xp3300_force_rugged_mobile_phone/ How's your blag btw? I'm sympathetic to technology, but between racing, diving, sailing and skiing plus going all over the world with work and using my phone a LOT when I do, it does take a bit of a hammering. The BB Torch I have now has been great so far (I have a Barely There case on it) but I just figure if I have an upgrade it might be worth looking at what else is out there. The people I've been talking to wouldn't jailbreak anything! They're far more technophobic than me. The fact is though that in my experience Apple products aren't up to it. Besides, I don't like their GUIs. The phone you suggest doesn't tick my boxes! What is this blag you speak of?

It's going to be interesting to see what you choose and where you compromise. Whatever you do, don't buy a playbook to go alongside a crackberry. Ah the blag thing was just that guest blag? About the thing with the wheels and the track and the tests to see if you're allowed to wear a helmet and crash into tire barriers.

About the thing with the wheels and the track and the tests to see if you're allowed to wear a helmet and crash into tire barriers. It isn't just the case, I want good functionality too but it needs to be hard-wearing enough to cope with my life. For instance, it *has* to take good pics quickly for work, and the same for video. Social networking is essential for the same reason. I won't be getting a Playbook, don't worry. I looked into it for launches but ended up with a £250 HP netbook that does the job much better than any tablet could. Still not sure what you mean about 'guest blag'... if you mean my racing I'm foolish enough to be funding that all myself but it's going pretty well all the same.
