CJ
Well, after having probably the worse week of my life I now find that the tv I borrowed off my youngest son has decided to stop playing any volume. I run a freeview box into it via scart and also a media player hard drive via component but whilst bith are showing pictures, neither are emitting sound. I've checked the mute is nit activated on the remotes and also the connections but to no avail. I could really do without this now
Havard
Are you sure you've not gone deaf Col? Have you tried listening to other things? H.
Scott
Do you have a set of earphones mate? If the output from that works then it's most likely just the speaker that's gone. If that's the case... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRUST-Soundforce-Speaker-Set-15999-NEW-/300370523186?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopComponents_RL&hash=item45ef7a7432 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Compact-stereo-speaker-set-5-Watt-RMS-outpu-292796-/190592469060?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopComponents_RL&hash=item2c60324844 Problem solved. Shane
I know that you say that you have checked the connections, but the scart plug pins that carry the audio signal are at the cable end of the plug. What happens often is that the gear gets moved for cleaning or whatever reason and any pull on the cable pulls the audio end of the plug out by a few mm and you lose audio. It happens all the time at work, cleaners do the dusting and we lose audio. You can get locking scart leads btw. Try this first and then come back and I will try to assist if I can. I've asked Josh to bring sone down later to check. Thanks for the tip

I've checked the connections and they all look and feel fine. It would be strange if it is the connections as both the freeview with scart and the media player with component are both not functioning - and that would be a heck of a coincidence. CJ
Are you sure you've not gone deaf Col? Have you tried listening to other things? H. I tried talking to myself H and that was ok. Then I thought what if I talked in my mind as opposed to speech (easy mistake to make) And so I went to the toilet and could definitely hear the splashes in the water. Indeed, sorry I missed the bit about the media player being connected at component. Just as a test, assuming the tv has a scart socket, try connecting the freeview box direct. Just as a test, assuming the tv has a scart socket, try connecting the freeview box direct. I think I might have confused people here (I certainly confuse myself) and so, just to confirm, the items are connected as follows: Trekstor media player direct to tv using yellow, red, White phonograph leads which I think are called component. This then plays through ext 3 on the tv with picture but no sound. Freeview is connected to one of the 2 scart sockets on the tv and again has picture but no sound. Does that make sense? It sounds like a tv speaker problem?

Each time, I've turned it off at the wall, left it a few seconds then turned it back on, and each time it's worked fine afterwards.

The red, yellow and white leads are most likely connected using Composite video rather than Component, assuming that the audio was previously working from the media player using these leads. Besides, as the freeview box has a separate connection to the TV its nothing to do with the media player or it's connections. It does sound as you say a TV issue, what type of tv is it? Does it have on screen graphics, and if so if you crank the volume up what do the graphics show?
CJ
Just tried joshuas in ear type headphones via the 3mm stereo jack plug and the sound is playing through them ok. The tv is a fairly basic acoustic solutions lcd26805hd. I have checked the stored settings and ensured the volume and graphics are all as they should be but still no sound. It looks like a cheap external set of speakers are required until I acquire my eldest sons almost new 32" jvc when he leaves for Oz at the end of december
Shane
Yep, probably the easiest way of doing it, glad you are closer to getting it sorted. CJ
Just bought a set of cheap as chips Creative A60 speakers from Argos and after a bit of a stupid moment (there was no sound but I hadn't realised there was a volume control on the side of the speakers) it is now playing fine and dandy. For £14 or so the sound is more than acceptable
