Chris Wilson
NO telephone support numbers, their support forum removed my complaint within 10 minutes of my posting it, and after an interminable time on line with an "agent" I am no further and £35 quid out of pocket, and unsure if some crook has got my debit card details. Here is the on line chat: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ newbury_houseInitial Question/Comment: Phishing, identity thef 20:23:21 System Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Support! 20:23:26 System Celeste E. has joined this session! 20:23:26 System Connected with Celeste E. 20:24:11 Celeste E. Hello! Welcome to Skype Live Support! My name is Celeste. How may I help you? 20:24:39 newbury_house I changed my out of date payment card details to my current debit card yesterday, and also topped up my account with a £10 UK pounds credit. I ensured auto recharge was OFF. I have now seen auto recharge is back on and my debit card has been fraudulently debited an extra £25. This has apparently all been used up today by calls to land lines and mobiles in Cameroon, Senegal and God knows where else. I have informed my bank, Barclays Bank PLC. I have changed my Skype password. My computer is up to date with anti virus and is only used by myself, at home. Can this unauthorised and fraudulent debit be refunded, and what do I need to do now, please? Thanks, Chris Wilson. [email protected] 07971-952084 20:26:36 Celeste E. As I understand your concern, your account was used by someone else without your knowledge. Correct? 20:26:56 newbury_house Yes, that's correct, but remotely, not from here. 20:27:21 Celeste E. I would be happy to help you with this. 20:27:26 Celeste E. Can I have your Skype name please. 20:27:33 newbury_house newburt_house 20:27:48 newbury_house Sorry, typo, it's newbury_house 20:28:31 Celeste E. Please give me 3 minutes to check this for you. 20:28:38 newbury_house OK, thanks. 20:29:51 newbury_house My internet connection is poor, if it drops is there a way to get back in touch with you? 20:33:21 Celeste E. Thank you for patiently waiting. 20:37:46 Celeste E. We need some information before we lift the restriction on your account. 20:38:28 newbury_house What about the fraudulent debit, whwere do I stand there? 20:38:28 Celeste E. 1.The approximate date of the last purchase you made to your Skype account (check your credit card statement or the order confirmation email that was sent to you after the purchase). 2.The order number. 3.The payment method or credit card type used to make the purchase. 4.The email address you used when you first registered with Skype. 20:39:05 newbury_house AFAIK, the e-mail I used was [email protected] 20:39:29 newbury_house I made a manual payment of £10 credit yesterday 20:39:53 newbury_house I used my Barclays business Visa debit card 20:40:48 newbury_house Order number: 546963645 20:41:51 newbury_house The fraudulent payment of £25 was: 20:41:54 newbury_house Skype Name: newbury_house Product name: Auto-recharge on low balance Total amount: GBP28.75 Transaction date: Nov 9, 2011 Order number: 546995239 Order status: DELIVERED 20:42:28 newbury_house Is this sufficient information? 20:42:57 Celeste E. Please give me 3 minutes to verify your information. 20:43:15 newbury_house The fraudulent debit was also off this same card. 20:43:25 newbury_house OK, thanks. 20:49:59 Celeste E. Thank you for patiently waiting. 20:50:11 newbury_house ok 20:51:59 Celeste E. I will lift the restriction on your account but Skype cannot refund any money you might have lost due to this incident. 20:52:14 newbury_house Why is that please? 20:54:00 System Connected with Celeste E. 20:54:00 Celeste E. Please note that every user has to take care of their security systems on private computers. 20:54:48 newbury_house I believe the card details you hold may have been compromised, rather than a hacking of my own PC 20:57:02 newbury_house I also would like to know how to get hold of your VAT number that you use for billing purposes, I printed off the last billings and it's not shown. 21:00:00 Celeste E. In this case, you need to contact your bank to report unauthorized usage of your account. 21:00:22 newbury_house I have done this, thanks. 21:00:39 newbury_house How do I get your VAT number please? 21:02:16 newbury_house Is Skype willing to credit my account £25 used fraudulently as a sign of goodwill? I still need your VAT number, I was of the opinion it was a legal requirement to show it on invoices that are chraging VAT? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Session terminated by the "agent". Not good. Chris Wilson
They have offered a full refund this morning, although a Google search shows offering and receiving are quite different. We will see. Having NO phone number to contact them on is, as far as I know, against credit and debit card sales regulations, at least in the UK. I am usually very cautious about letting a company or individual have access to bank card details, and pay a premium to avoid direct debits. Seems either I wasn't vigilant when signing up, or things have changed since a few years ago when I subscribed. Anyone else know a company that has the means to debit your card ad lib that has no contact phone number, just out of curiosity?
