Snowman
Hi Guys, You must have heard the story when it starts " a funny thing happened to me the other day" well here we go: Intermittantly when applying the brake pedal the dash lights dim (to the setting night setting) the radio suddenly gets interference and when releasing the brake pedal the rear light warning light comes up on the left section of the dash! I think there may be a loss earth wire somewhere or something but any thoughts? I have just had a boost copntroller wired in and was wondering if something may have been disturbed. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance
THOR Racing
Funnily enough I have "exactly" the same problem. But as I've had a dash fuse blown for a while now I guessed it was that. (been too lazy to replace it..doh!) I know I have a dash fuse blown as I was mucking about with my fog lamps and behind dash wiring when it blew. The odometer and clock both distinguish when I put the lights on and I get no lighting behind the speedo dials etc. The radio interference bit is very odd I agree. So I think the power return (or ground!) is being found via a strange route hence the interference. I need to take a look in the next couple of days and replace the fuse but I'm hoping it's just that. Regards Pete
Matt Harwood
I had exactly the same thing about a month ago. with exactly the same symptoms as both yours and Petes - It scared to crap out of me as I thought it was going to be difficult to trace or expensive... I went to attatch a probe to the battery terminals, and one fell off when I touched it, I re-fitted it correctly and the car was happy again Hope yours is as simple as that. Ian C
Probably caused by a dodgy ICE install, Matt. Take it somewhere professional next time -Ian

nick_karkie
I got some radio interference with the switch for the rear fog light....does it mean the fuse for these lights has gone. When I flick the switch for the rear foggy's the speakers make a thud noise. havent actually looked to see if they are still working...this might be a good idea! THOR Racing
Nick, No this just means your fog lamp switch is cr*p! A good switch should make a clean contact and have minimal electrical interference. The problem is the switch is carrying the load. Better to have the switch turn on a relay and have that take the majority of the current flow. Pete

Snowman
Hi guys, I do think it is just a loose connection somewhere as it happened all the way in this morning. Ready for the weird stuff though! The side lights also come on when I brake! If I turn the lights on the opposite happens, i.e. the radio interference happens all the time unless I put my foot on the brake, then clean as usual. Also the rear light cluster warning light stays on all the time. I have just had my boost controller wired in so I think it may just be a loose connection as this backlight on this unit is unaffected compared to all the crazy light show which is going on on my dash!!! Figures crossed a quick tweek should sort it.
Matt Harwood
Have you checked your battery terminals yet?
Snowman
That might be an idea, as previously i have been getting a low battery warning chirp on my alarm, even though everything is absolutely fine! Cheers Matt Also have you had any luck with bass tubes to go in the back of the Sup. I remember chatting to you about them at the G-Force rolling road. Snowman
Too dark to do any work last night but, wiggled some wiring under the bonnet and good as gold for a while this morning, then it started again. With the headlights off touch the brake pedal and the radio gets interference, with the headlights on unless you depress the brake pedal there is constant interference. towards the end of my journey the rear light cluster light came on again as well. Wiring and electrics stuff scares me so I don't want to start poking around and end up busting something. Any more thoughts?

I've now got a Kicker S8-L7, (8" square sub) in an enclosure that fits between the wheelarch humps and goes from the back seats, slanting down to level off at the wheelarch humps... Does that make sense Anyway, it's powered by a genuine 500w rms and produces enough bass to make the sound like a baby's rattle!
Snowman
Ok interested. What sort of wedge are we talking and where are you based?
