Samsar
RIP... I wonder what those Artics are carrying though looks very flamable... I think we all know what the Iceland truck might have been carrying.. The truck that's completely destroyed looks like one of Samworth Brothers and they mainly carry foodstuffs.. The one at the back was a Ginsters artic .. Doubt anything on the TNT truck was dodgy as it didn't have it haz plates up..
Attero
Can't see an oil tanker on the videos, unless it was burnt away. UPDATE Fears that the death toll may be double

L18msy
Thoughts are with the families. I have to agree with some folk here, driving standards with some folk has nose dived. I was stuck behind a Corsa in the fast lane the other night doing 50 mph on the dual carriageway (70 mph limit on this road) doing the exact same speed as the car on the inside lane. I was stuck behind this idiot for sometime and was obvious the driver wasn't looking in the mirrors. The person on the inside lane saw the massive jam appearing and slowed down to let the corsa driver pull in. But no it stayed out there, so i pulled in to pull along side and have a look in to see who the idiot was. It was only a young lass in her early 20's holding her mobile against the steering wheel and texting, she wasn't even looking up. It makes my blood boil. Anything could have happened in front of her and she wouldn't have noticed.
imi
Guess they will install some scameras on that stretch of road and invoke a variable speed limit
wile e coyote
It was right on the entry slip and as said before people seem to think its ok just to pull out. Family in taunton said the fireworks are right beside the motorway so the smoke not help either Thoughts are with the familys
Littler
Wow can't believe how bad this was, I saw more about it on the news! My thoughts are with the familys and friends

Mike_Mac
/\ /\ Funny you should say that Mike - I see RoSPA's only comment so far has been about the stupidity of introducing an 80 mph limit when incidents like this happen when the limit is 70. The point > . [RoSPA] While I said it wasn't too bad on that night I still wasn't going at 70, never mind 80, because I was driving to the conditions, not the effing speed limit! It's sad that, rather than try to promote discussion on safe driving, awareness and driving to the road and conditions rather than the limit etc etc they once again focus on speed! (if they want to go down that line then how come quite a few of the vehicles involved were lorries? Surely as they were only going at 56 they should have been safe?! Jimmy James
Just found out my mates girlfriends dad passed away in this accident. R.I.P all the poor souls who never seen this coming. Personally I think they need to put up a couple street lights along this stretch between Clevedon and Taunton. Bad visibility at night no matter what the weather IMO.. Just last year I witnessed a car burned up at j24 with fatalities. Its nothing to do with speed, just the drivers not paying attention. They are taking the easy way out again because they can change the speed limit easily and with little cost. However changing peoples driving style and bad habits is very taxing and very expensive. merckx
No more bodies have been found at the scene of the crash on the M5 which killed seven people, police have said.
Dnk
Wasn't the main cause of this accident due to a very thick patch of fog that caught out a few drivers that caused the plie up ? Im amazed we dont have more pile ups when you see just how bad people drive when they get on a motorway. Too many people drive on the motorways as if nothing ever goes wrong on them and aren't prepared for when it does.

Dnk
Strange as the policeman i saw interviewed and the family that were involved seemed to think it was fog, perhaps a bit of both ? Not very clever having a bonfire/firework display next to the motorway though
Gabriella
Lorry driver was watching fireworks as well and then... All cars hit the "white wall" -the lorry (which was "parked" across the motorway) not a smoke from fireworks.
