SupraAyf
The missus and I were thinking about driving to Holyhead then popping across to Dublin by Ferry to stay for a few days. We would then pass to Northern Ireland to visit friends and then return via Stranraer. I'm sure it would be a scenic route but we have never done it before. Does anyone know what the situation is with passport control from the UK to Dublin - someone said that you only needed a photo ID?

jon5698
I go over to Ireland from Holyhead all the time Andrew and have only been asked for ID once, and that was when I had come back to holyhead! Driving license was all I showed them and they were fine. It will only take you 2hrs to get from Dublin to the ferry terminal at Belfast, I hope the weather is better for you when you go, I got stuck in the floods in Dublin last week! cossack
once you come off the ferry head for swords, skerries, ballbrigin, bettystown, clogherhead, youll be able to follow the east coast most of the way up northern ireland, dont worry about going off piste, thats part of the fun in the south and is not hard to find your way back, some crackin REAL irish pubs along the way, not the glam **** you get in the cities and bigger towns! Keep us posted on dates, we'll come out to say hello and even buy you a pint That's really kind of you Jim - really kind. Sadly though mate, the Supe's front end would probably disintegrate as I boarded the Ferry due to its lack of ground clearance.
