Wheels and Tires for track day

Hi There, I ve been using my Supra mainly on the street so far. However, I am considering taking it to the track (circuit) and trying it out.

My car is a T61 turbo set-up pushing 550 bhp

Brakes: stock UK brakes

Suspension: HKS Hipermax 3 coilovers

Wheels: 18 inch iForged wheels

Tires: 265/35/18 Front & 295/30/18 Rear.

I am looking to get a set of wheels and tires solely for track days (circuit). I would really appreciate it if someone could guide me towards some options?

Cheers

might be worth getting after market 17" wheels though as your want to keep your 295 width. my 17's have 275, not sure if 295 would fit?

EDIT: best to check what tyres would fit on stock 17's as ive never had any the tyres might be ok.

Hi,

I have a set of Rota Boosts for sale...

9x18 (265/35/18) and 10x18 (295/30/18) - they fit under stock front arches rolled rears with R888's on them.

They have has a set of wet slicks fitted and then removed, they haven't been fitted to the car so are as new.

Plenty of room for brakes, as I have KAD brakes with AP 356mm front and stock rear discs without any issues.

Let me know if your interested...

They are like in the pics below.

You will get better straight line traction with a taller sidewall tyre than an 19 or 19 inch tyre with very low profile sidewalls. 17 inch rims will be fine *BUT* make sure that you can get the tyre of your choice in a size that fits, from stock.

Chris, do you have any suggestions for tyres. It seems that the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup doesnt do many sizes in 17 inch. Any other suggestions please?

This could be an issue. I used to be able to buy loads of old stock in 18 inch, but now it's all bloody 19 inch stuff in the exotic track day specials that come up cheap.

Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo may be available in 17 inch in suitable widths.

Definitely the Dunlops are available:

They cost a lot though.

Chris, I m leaning toward just going for another set of 18 inch wheels as tires seem to be a big problem in the 17in range and I dont want to be limited to just one brand of tires. I know you are the expert here on suspension geometry etc., what should I be looking for when I am going for new wheels but when my main priority is handling. offsets, backspacing etc.

Cheers
