Doing a bit of Banking lately, and wanted to increase 1 of my credit cards by £450 to a round 3k limit. So phoned up and said i'd like to increase my Limit please by £450. The girl said hold on. She came back to me and said im sorry we can't do this for you, your not permitted to increase your limit until ?? Wait for it, Wait....

April 2013

What the Heck is that all about???

I've never missed payments on any of my 2 cards, one has very little on it, my credit rating is Great, and a healthy wage to add to it.

Im inclined to phone up, cancel the bugger and go for a better offer on another card.

Fuds!!!

Rant Over...............

Get one that gives you rewards. I pay mine off in full every month and have the Virgin one, which rewards in Virgin miles. Pays off, as I've just got £900 off my flights to Vegas next year :D

virgin miles i dont bother about, Lindsay is cabin crew for Thomson, so we get like holiday's including flights for like £300 each anywhere, i'll do a bit of digging and see whats the best cards out there at the mo. :D

cheers bud

I had the same problem when I lost my card whilst working in Zurich & needed to up the limit on my Barclay card. Dispute a £5k increase in my salary than what they had on their system & never missing a payment also having a good rating, they couldn't add £500 to the card & I had to wait... wait for it, wait for it....

30 days! :D

Though as soon as I was back in the UK, I told them they won't need them no longer, they offered to increase it but I told them I don't need it anymore so what's the point.

It's my only one at the moment. I got rid of what I had previously. One of my cards was up at 20 odd K at one point. I think I was a grand into it. They just kept bumping it up for no apparent reason.

I got another 2 offers in yesterday....

Tesco - £3890 (where the hell do they pull these figures from?)

M&S - £TBA

I phoned up M&S to see what the script was there. They sent out an agreement for me to sign without any limit figure in place. They then crypically asked how much I was looking for. I said 5k minimum. They said the best they could offer would be 4k but they would up it after 3 months of payment.

I called up Tesco asking the same, £5k, and they said that it would be 6 months before I could up it.

Apply for 3-4 credit cards so this issue never arises, and if your credit rating is good bank will automatically increase your limits, banks have lot of money to give for reputed customers

good luck

I've got a credit card with Nationwide with a £1,500 limit on it. I only use it to pay for fuel for the Supra and pay it off each month (to get a good credit rating when I go to buy a house) and they've just sent me a Platinum card through with a £2,000 limit, not that I'll use anywhere near that anyway!

Sucks for you, man!

have a look at tesco's credit cards Geo.

I managed to get one with a 5k credit limit and 13 months interest free credit too. Only took 5 minutes to fill out an online form then a quick registration call when the card arrived and that was it sorted. you even earn club card points from it :D

There a slippy slope though if you get carried away.

This is very true. I used to have a card with no credit limits but I've cancelled that due to this reason. ALthought saying that, it really built up my credit rating! Some people with card limits as bragging rights but it is just an easy way to get yourself into a mountain of debt.

And thats why i'm too scared to have anything but a debit card :)
