steering wheel shakes when braking

hi fellas ..my problem is that the steering wheel shakes when i brake if i am doing 60 miles or more..i was told that the brake discs were waped have to be taken to a shop and lathering to be done,,we did that and the problem is still there...

when we took the discs for lathering we separate the discs from the hubs(2 pieces) we did the lathering and then put them back together.the guy at the garage said that we shouldn't do that cause the discs lost their balance again..

what do you think is the problem?

Sounds like rubbish to me.

Did anyone check the discs to see if they were warped, ie put a dial clock on them while there on the hub

or on an inspection table ?

Have all the steering joints etc been checked, wheel bearings, do the calipers work okay and not seizing

the front discs are almost new only 1500 miles on them(and really expensive..huge brembo) ..the rear ones are in medium condition...i had the steering joints etc checked..they said it were ok..

the guy at the garage said that the calipers are working ok... what should it be checked on the calipers exactly

no i have to say that when we took them to the lathe we did not test them with dial clock etc..my mechanic said that the problem was the discs and we just took them to the lathe

the steering wheel only shakes when braking above 50 miles/h

Do you get any shaking without braking ?

Were the discs fine when first fitted ?

Have you done any serious heavy braking such as a trackday etc since fitting.

Before you buy anything get what you have checked with a dial clock with the

discs bolted to the hubs.

Check the fronts and rears while your at it.

Rear disc warpage won't be felt in the steering. Maybe they are warping when they get hot, does the steering shake even when braking with the discs cold or cool? The discs should be ground, not turned to reface them. Sometimes you just get a bad casting, that will contnually warp when it gets hot, if so it's throw them away time.

Certainly sounds like a front disc warping issue. I have never ever changed a front hub bearing on a MKIV, they seem very reliable unless the wheel strikes a kerb, or someone takes a hammer to remove worn or damaged wheel studs and bruises them. I have done LOTS of rear hub bearings, but they will not be your problem.
