Josh
Just in case he doesn't see this thread. LOL! Careful of where you put them. Did you see on the news, that woman that got arrested for racial abuse because she had a golliwog on her window sill and apparently she did it to harrass the black family next door? GLWS. Tricky-Ricky
Used to love the Robertsons golliwogs, had the badges, good knows you would probably be arrested these days just for wearing it FFS! I am not racist in any way, but in my experience the biggest racists i have ever come across have been foreigners, i get really pissed of with the people using the racist card as some sort of stick to beat us with. rant over, GLWTS:)

Attero
If they are racist... then I will consider Postman Pat racist. If that's the case, only the Simpsons can be politically correct, sort of.

Tannhauser
I know what you are saying there was nothing racist about them originaly so why would people say so now.werent they modeld on the minstrels I guess because now there's more awareness about the origins of the golliwogs. As you say, they're linked to the minstrels, which were largely an invention of white americans. The idea of blacking up was to show black plantation workers as happy chaps singing chirpy songs about their jolly lives. Also, it was to ridicule and caricature them. Whatever it became afterwards, the whole 'blackface' thing did start off as something rooted in slavery, bigotry and human misery. Maybe people are over-sensitive about it, but that's the reason behind it. Nothing to do with your sale, but just out of interest.
