If all they ever read is txt spk from their mates and they were taught phonetics at school then it's little wonder that their grammer and spelling is appaling. Examiners and teachers these days look for 'expression and content' in the writing of their pupils rather than correct spelling, punctuation and grammar like they may have done in the past. Spot on. I was about to dust off my soapbox and give my take on what has caused this, but you've beaten me to it. Kids don't read books anymore. Standard of education in this country is extremely poor, both at school and equally importantly at home. I think it's more the latter than the former. Our schools aren't actually that bad. It's the people who are in them I think it's about the parents too. A lot of parents out there think reading to their children is a job for school teachers, not themselves. Well done, good work those parents. Give yourselves a round of applause if you can put your work crackberry down or tear yourselves from Jeremy Kyle for long enough.
