I don't think the Dextron stuff is near the quality of the original gearbox oil.

Try the royal purple. There have been threads on this, use the search button on royal purple. But in my opinion I wouldn't use anything else besides the royal purple or the v160 oil.

Getrag themselves say to use Dexron, many many manufacturers use dexron in their manual boxes a brilliant strtegy by toyota was prob to buy Dexron for about £1 a ltr and repackage it and sell it for £30 a ltr !!!! You can even buy fully synthetic trans fluid now, its what goes in the BMW autos sealed for life boxes.

Dude,

Are you confirming something that I have suspected for years now and goes against the advice given on here and other forums that Toyota Type 4 ATF is badge engineered dextron? I have always suspected as much, but never been brave enough to take the risk.

And I have never used Toyota Type 4 fluid !!!!! The list of cars that use transmission fluid for their manual gearboxes is endless, TVR, Cosworth, Ford, Nissan Toyota etc.

Yeah I have always suspected as much. My first NA even had Dextron II embossed into the dipstick! I remember when I first asked the question I was given the impression that using Dextron especially in TT boxes would cause a seal failure or oilway to block and that was why the Type 4 ATF AKA snake oil, was different and special. I spoke to a local autobox rebuilder and he said that if he rebuilt my box he would be filling it with Dextron and was happy to warranty it too, which spoke volumes. Another Supra myth I guess.
