Ian W
Right then! I know there are a lot of iPhone 4 users on the forum and I'd like you to answer a few questions if you can. At the moment I have an HTC Desire on O2 and at the moment I have about 8 months left of my 24 month contract. For the remainder of this period, I'd like to swap to an iPhone 4 I have (currently on 3 rather than O2). I've been given a micro sim by an O2 store so no problem there, just need to transfer to the new sim. My question is, will be iPhone 4 work with my O2 sim or is it locked to 3? If it is locked to 3, can I unblock it myself? Cheers all. Ian
johnny g
If you're on Firmware 4.3.3 just go to Jailbreakme.com then install Cydia. Ultrasn0w is your best friend

This is where it gets complicated. The phone has been reset and is showing the 'connect to iTunes' screen when switched on. To make matters worse, I only have iTunes 9 on my MacBook and can't update to iTunes 10 (which I apparently need) without upgrading OSX from Lion which I currently have installed Any ideas on a way around this? johnny g
You should be able to download firmware 4.3.3 from a site like Redmondpie - that'll tell you how to do it
Ian W
Surely I can't do anything until I actually get the iPhone 'working' though? It basically looks like this at the moment:
johnny g
Try using: http://blackra1n.com/ That might work for you. Depends on what o/s is on the iPhone.
Ian W
Will give it a go. Fingers crossed!
Ian W
Hmmmm, downloaded. Hit the 'make it rain' button and it seemed to be doing it's thing. Now I have iTunes asking me to restore the iphone! Dubious about doing this in case it puts a newer firmware on that I can't jailbreak though
Wez
Dont you still need the SHSH/blobs for the firmware you want to install, my Cydia is only listing 4.1 and 4.3.

Wez
The what now? Exactly, the SHSH/blobs are signed code from Apple and cannot be forged (well not that I know of) and are generated when you update the phone, but currently apple are only signing/generating for 4.3.5 and 5.0 I would also like to upgrade to 4.3.3 but sadly the SHSH/blobs are not listed and Cydia is only showing 4.1 and 4.3.5, the issue is that 4.3.5 is currently a tethered jailbreak meaning you need to connect up to the PC with each reboot, a real PITA
Ian W
Nightmare. Basically, my iPhone is in Recovery Mode and I'm not sure I can jailbreak it from Recovery Mode (given iTunes is telling me to restore it)
johnny g
Wez, download TinyUmbrella. Ian, there are ways to kick the phone out of recovery mode, just search on google. Many articles.

I think it's maybe because it's been reset, Johnny? At the moment I'm trying to solve another problem though....the other half's laptop won't boot
Ian W
Right, we have progress. Laptop is back up and running with a fresh install of iTunes (thanks to Scott M) and the iPhone is no longer in recovery mode. Now all I need to do is figure out how to jailbreak an iPhone 4 (4.2.1 at present) while preserving the baseband so I can unlock it. Any ideas?
