are there any websites out there to check if a car is import or uk? (non supra )

just wondered if there are sites to check if a car is uk or not!

 

for example my friend just brought a Malta import Subaru and we only know this as the dealer told us didn't show up on hpi etc so how did the dealer know this?

what info does the vin contain to say where its origins are

17 digts means UK

14 means import

They can type the VIN into the computer and tell where it was shipped to I assume.

the scooby has 17digits and is still uk spec inc miles and fog etc but it a malta import

i have a app on my phone as when i type the reg in sometimes there is info missing i.e model...... normally means its a import

This is the easiest way, https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/home/intro?skin=directgov

 

Click on vehicle enquiryon the left, put in reg and manufacturer then it will tell you year of manufacture and date of first registration if they are different its an import.
