Scott
Just listening to the news on the radio and they said there is a new report out linking the fish pedicures to spreading Hep C & Aids. Apparently some states in the US have banned them. The risk is low but it's potentially there none the less. I tend not to read into these "reports" too much, and I know what some US states can be like when something is rumoured, but I'm certainly interested to know the facts. My Wife had one of these done a few months ago and loved it, don't think she'll be in for it again though.
mellonman
them fish must have big teeth to draw blood to spread anything, if they had 2 persons with a open wond then maybe.
Havard
There is no extra charge for this though.

Not sure how it is spread as I haven't read anything on it yet, just going from what I heard on the radio. The only real question that I have at the moment is whether the risk of infection is minimal because of the low numbers of infected people using the service, or whether it's because the actual process itself is unlikely to spread any disease. If it's the latter then it's not quite as bad as it could be, if it's the prior then I would be seriously worried about using them (not that I would anyway lol). There is no extra charge for this though. Surprisingly given the current climate
sdistc
That report's accuracy is up there with contracting AIDs from kissing or holding hands.

Abz
As far as I am aware to contract Hepatitis C or Aids it would involve blood transfers/contact to get into the blood stream. An open wound on 2 people could cause this but the risks are very minimal then too. The one I went to, they made you wash your feet & whilst you was washing them they had a visual inspection before you went in.
Josh
Couldn't think of anything worse than this. As said in the other thread, I think it'd tickle too much and I'd end up squishing a few. Do they charge you if you kill some of the fish?
Attero
I've done it. I thought it was great. Really did have smoother feet after 15 minutes. It doesnt draw any blood so I can't see it being a problem in all honesty.
Purity14
That report's accuracy is up there with contracting AIDs from kissing or holding hands. Are you for real, of course you'll get the AIDs from kissing and holding hands. I know a bloke who got it just by listening to a Queen Mix tape. That report's accuracy is up there with contracting AIDs from kissing or holding hands. As with all biological diseases/afflictions/agents it does not need to be transfered by blood, that includes Aids! Any soft tissue/membrane can be used for the transfer purpose altho the likelyhood of this is very very low Aids can be transmitted through saliva but the quantities of saliva is enormous The idea that the fish are spreading the afflictions is pretty much a load of crock! The amount of dead skin and live skin the fish would need to consume and pass on is rediculous, alos all tanks are fitted with bio filters and a UV lamp and the water is processed through these pumps very efficiently Also how would they know the fish are transmitting the disease, are they testing every fish, No! But these fish can transmit fungal infections like athletes foot very easily if the tanks are not maintained

SupraDan24
You dont contract Aids, you contract HIV which leads to AIDS once HIV has broken down immuno response enough to leave you open to contracting oppertunistic infections. As Al Massey said, although HIV is present in Saliva, the concentration is extremly low and it would be very very difficult for the virus to successfull infect a host at such low levels. Just so you know
