mellonman
i was looking up whta was involved with a leakdown test and come acrross this http://www.max-boost.co.uk/max-boost/Leakdown_tester.htm im not 100% sure how you would read the leak on that?could anyone with the know please tell me. is the leak down done as back up if you had a bad compression reading as they are so closly related ie if you had bad compression say -20% you will have a bad leak down test -20%. and if you had good compression you will have good leak down test. could you get good compression and bad leak down results? CanisLupus
Afaik you could get good compression with a bad leak down result. As compression rather measures how much pressure is build up in a short time while leak down is a way to see if there are any leaks in the headgasket etc over a longer period. Experts correct me if i'm wrong
mellonman
i see your point, i do have a problem being that the car now has no turbos attached so cant really move it anywhere for leak down test to be done, but i can get a conpression tester. dude
The leakdown will tell you alot more whats going on the motor and where, for example if it hisses out of the dipstick or oil filler its rings, if its the TB its inlet valves leaking and ex valves would be the tailpipe (if the turbos were on)
mellonman
so the leak down test is to determin where the fault of lower compression would be? so that little mod thing would work as its a very primative but you would see the drop in pressure from each cylider
