Wez
Hey All, Just wondering if anyone on here knows if the engine mounts in all BMW E46 petrol models are the same? Thanks Wes

Wez
I guess no one here knows Apparently they are all the same which is good as this 1JZ, 2JZ kit looks interesting http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1jz-2jz-Mount-Swap-Kit-bmw-E46-M3-1999-2006-/280753837509?hash=item415e3b95c5#ht_1022wt_1139
creative
I suspect the 4pot and 6pot ones are. On the e36 the mounts were the same but the 6pots were a little beefier.
Chris Wilson
Engine mount brackets look well conceived and made, gearbox crossmembr looks a bit flexible, could do with some ribbing.

Chris, would dropping a 2JZ engine into an E46 be project you would take on?
johnny g
A 2JZ E46 would be a hoot - but a Rotrex'd M3 engine would be a lot of fun, too!
Wez
How reliable though, the M3 engine seems a little fragile to me, even in stock form.
Chris Wilson
I would do it, yes, do you fancy having a new project? Any photos of the installed engine? The M3 is a slanted fit, the 2JZ is deigned to work vertically. Plus do they accommodate fitting the turbos around a RHD steering set up? Does the six speed gear lever come out in the right place? Road or track biased build? Giken do a nice diff for the E46 ....
Wez
Just mulling over ideas at the moment, a nice comfy modern ish road car with about 450-500hp
