Used an angle grinder with small disk to cut the slots in the plastic as found this have the cleanest cut, but take your time. The carpet is a total pain, but takes time and patience! Thanks Westy, I have the patience and was planing to use a Dremel with a small cutting disc, so I can be really precise.
