p3te
Vid here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xEiH67auQg&feature=youtube_gdata_player ive just done a oil change and fitted a sandwich plate and my gauge is going crazy? Its not moving around as much since its warmed up but its bouncing around between 2 and 3, the gauge hasnt been used in about 12 month? what could the problem be
dan294
Bad earth perhaps? Or the gauge is tossed....?
Noz
sounds like bad earth or dodgy voltage connection to oil pressure sensor. check the wiring; see if you are getting a voltage output on your gauge to the oil pressure sensor, then check resistance on earth wire to bodywork. p3te
What should the oil pressure be?
dan294
I think about 5.5-6 Bar when on first start-up at fast Idle, dropping to about 2-2.5 bar when warmed right up. I think... Sure some one will know for definite.
Chris Wilson
Could be a bad wiring job, a bad sender or a bad gauge, as I often say, you can't beat a good quality mechanical bourdon tube gauge for reliability, simplicity and price. The number of shocking electriocal gauges I see, where the face falls in your lap over a bump, or nothing happens to show start up oil pressure until it's played the Anvil Chorus and swept up and down, bleeped and blinked at you for 10 seconds, is alarming. Gimmicks, sorry, but just gimmicks.
p3te
Earth seems ok, the gauge use to work fine, how can i test the gauge and sender?
Noz
check the voltage on the output wire going to sensor. this will be a constant value, but will need to be open circuit (not connected) to check, as readings from sensor will adjust voltage due to resistanec. check the linking wire between gauge and sensor, and check the earth for the sensor. Lude
ive got the same gauge mate, i had a problem with mine a few weeks ago, the red light was flashing, and the gage was right the way down asif i had terminal oil pressure. (this was an intermitant occurance) it was the wiring to the grey box, take the conenctors out of there, and fiddle them around so they are not twisted. i have my gauges in same location as yours, and there isnt a great amount of room behind there. apart from that, check the wiring to the sensor, and that you havent wired any of the other wires from the grey box to the wrong places PS the fact that the gauge hasnt been used in a while wont matter, i used the same gauge from my 300zx which was off the road for a good while. the gauge should be reading about on number 4kgcm2 when its cold, then when warms up, should be on 1kgcm2, then increase as the revs increase
