TubbyTwo
What was you expecting? Not to have 15 errors, then massive problems restoring the phone to a previous backup just to get it in a workable state again.
Abz
I retried mine again & went straight there, I take it the servers took a hammer last night.

I am pretty sure a message popped up & it stated that it wipes the device. Take it you cancelled the bit where it backs up the device before wiping it? I was close to doing that as the backup was taking ages. Then I thought it might be my laptop as I didn't have a huge amount of data on the device. Lol Meh, I didn't have anything usefull on it anyway except games, still haven't found a decent use for it... Still trying to see what the fuss is. AndrewOW
It took me around 4 attempts to update my 3GS, but got there in the end by restoring the software on the phone first, then going for the update. No problems there. I'm getting the 4S on friday, so I assume it has iOS5 installed already, and will compare the 2 for performance.
penguin
got a quick one for the iphone boffins on here .... i've got the 3gs, with version 4.0.1 which i installed years ago and jailbroken using (jailbreakme.com) anyway, i'm looking to upgrade to the version 5 from itunes... my itunes syncs every time i connect the device... anyway, i'm pretty sure all the jailbroken apps i have will disappear, BUT... will i lose my sms/contacts/history and app data for the ones i purchased? want to upgrade as i'm sure it'll be a massive update for someone using the earliest version 4 software... thanks
Attero
Can't seem to update my iPod Touch (3rd generation). Says the latest version is 4.2.1 and when I manually install the IPSW file, it tells me that the firmware is not compatible. Any ideas? Had the same problem, something to do with the 8gb 3rd Generation iPod Touch isn't 3rd gen at all! Its 2nd gen.... Apple stopped updating them at version 4.2.1. penguin
Upgrade completed - lost all the jailbreak apps, but all the photos/videos and app data for the legit stuff is still there... 3gs seems a lot faster/responsive - overall, very happy with it! And this will be apples downfall. You can't stop competition by sueing/litigating or just plain out claiming they are the best thing since sliced bread! apple are running scared as they underestimated the competition. The only problem is they have a bank balance to try and squish the competitors. I am still trying to see what the fuss is over ios5. I am typing this on an iPad2 with ios5 on it and quite frankly my SGS has been able to everything this will, straight out the box. You don't see threads in forums asking how to sync the latest version of android or even w7, apple are too far up their own Backside to see that they are hurting themselves with all these stupid patent claims....
