CJ
I have an iPhone 3GS and I have inadvertently (read stupidly) managed to upgrade the firmware to 4.3.5 which has meant I cannot now unlock it from orange nor jailbreak it untethered. I have tried reinstalling 4.3.3 via putting the phone into gsu mode but no matter how many times I try (and despite doing all the things recommended in the guides) I still get error 3194. Is there anything I can do that I haven't tried?

CJ
I am more interested in being able to unlock the phone off the network so that I can use my Greek sim
creative
There isn't a jailbreak for 4.3.5 yet. I think the only way you could do it was with some bits you save before you upgrade... Technical I know but I'm not up on apple stuff. Won't be long until a break is out though now that iOS5 is almost out. I'm waiting for it myself to JB this damn ipad2... CJ
I was on 4.3.3 and that worked untethered fine and dandy
johnny g
Yup, 4.3.3 is the best untethered
Wez
How do you upgrade to a firmware that doesnt download via iTunes, I guess I am being a jailbreak newbie I am currently running a 3GS with v4.0 on O2 which I jailbreaked using the popular website. Gahhhhhhh can you turn this stoopid autocorrect off! Bit of a pain the fact you have to re do it every time you lose power so to me it's not really a fully fledged JB. CJ
OK, so after my valiant attempt at trying to look as if I know what i am talking about, it is back to normal with some noob questions regarding JB and unlocking a 3gs. 1. Can I unlock an Iphone from the current network without it being JB? 2. If I cannot, then can I unlock an Iphone if I am using a tethered JB? 3. If so, does that mean the only way it will remain unlocked is if I turn on the phone whilst connected to a PC? Confused of Kos here!

Am I right in assuming that as this is a tethered JB then I wont be able to unlock the phone to receive any network?
Scott
Am I right in assuming that as this is a tethered JB then I wont be able to unlock the phone to receive any network? The link I just posted is to go from 4.3.5 back to 4.3.3 which from what I understand is what you were on previously? If that's the case then you should be able to jailbreak and unlock the phone the same way as you did the last time Getting back to 4.3.3 is what the guide is for bud, jailbreaking it and unlocking it will be via the usual method. Thanks Scott. Looking at that, I think I will wait until an untethered JB becomes available as the hassle of rebooting it tethered currently outweighs the advantages. I want to do this for the Iphone I purchased that had the IMEI blocked as the seller (good lad off here) now seems to think that Orange will unblock it for him. That being the case, they may just unlock the network too.

Scott
I am confused myself now. Wasn't the link you just posted for a tethered jailbreak? The first one I posted was a jailbreak for 4.3.5. The only option for 4.3.5 is tethered. It was then accepted that 4.3.3 was the best untethered jailbreak so I provided you with a link to a guide that would allow you to downgrade from 4.3.5 to 4.3.3. Once you are on 4.3.3 you can return the phone to the status you first had it in. Untethered jailbreak and unlocked.

Was that following the guide I just posted up? I dare say there are loads of different guides out there. The one I posted is linked to GeoHot who knows his stuff lol. Make sure you use all the software versions listed in the guide. Don't have an upgraded iTunes or anything like that, make sure it is the exact version it states in the guide. Wez
I am looking to upgrade my 3GS to 4.3.3, getting the firmware is not an issue as its available here http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ But looking in Cydia I only have SHSH for 4.1 and 4.3.5, I dont wont to goto 4.3.5 as that is tethered, does that mean I need to stick with the current 4.
