Lee Burley Posted October 10, 2011 Share Posted October 10, 2011 The five lines running front to back and over the rear subframe under my 93TT are pretty rotten. I have found part numbers for the two brake lines from the EPC, but cant seem to find part numbers for the others. I would guess the others are fuel flow and return (there are 5 in total) - so the fifth is a bit of a mystery. All help appreciated! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Chris Wilson Posted October 10, 2011 Share Posted October 10, 2011 Replace the brake lines with Kunifer or similar copper nickel lines, they will never rust again, and it's easier to work than steel. Quite why any modern car maker uses steel brake lines these days I do not know. Volvo went to rust free cupronickel in the late fifties... These lines need careful checking, some are well hidden, the age of the cars means brake line failure is real risk, due to corrosion. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

mwilkinson Posted October 11, 2011 Share Posted October 11, 2011 I replaced my two rear brake lines. If I recall both cost about £40 from MrT and one went right from the back to the front!! They came bent to shape but were a real pain to fit over the sub frame. I did this on the drive. On a ramp this would probably be much easier. Lee Burley Posted January 2, 2012 Author Share Posted January 2, 2012 Quick update as the work is now progressing after waiting 2 months for the parts to arrive! Part Numbers for a pre-facelift Brake Lines - 47326-14040 (£37) and 47327-14030 (£43) for the long ones down the car, 47328-14030 (£17) Fuel Lines - 77262-14070 (£39), 77251-14420 (£25), 77255-14420 (£45) The brake lines would have gone on with the subframe still on, but there is no way the fuel lines would have gone on, so I have dropped the subframe out and the whole job is now much easier. I am also replacing all the clips, connectors and hoses as I dont want to revisit these bits any time soon. Once I got the subframe off the hidden pipes were even more rotten - one snapped off as I was unclipping it - thank god this didnt happen on the road! This is on a 93 car which has always lived in a garage too... I have part numbers for all the other clips etc and will post a scanned copy if anyone wants more info. I am now onto re-furbishing the subframe. If anyone can recommend a way of refurbing (shot blasting or acid stripping?) these components that would be helpful Lee Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Chris Wilson Posted January 2, 2012 Share Posted January 2, 2012 Why didn't you just replace the pipes with Kunifer tubing, then they would NEVER rust again? It's also a joy to bend and work with. As for your subframe, do yourself a favour and take it to Surface Processing for their superb chemical strip and electro phosphate coating, cost about 50 to 70 quid. Should be as new afterwards.
