Jamesy
Just wondered how you can go about getting kids started in Go-Karting? I've enquired at a few places around Gatwick and they dont let kids in til they're 8.... but you look at all the Grand Prix drivers and other decent racing drivers and they were Karting at 3-4 yrs old. Any ideas how to go about starting kids off (my boy's 4) in Karting?
jazz1
It's the fumes that would get to me if i was a kid not the kart so much, last month I did the daytona track in Milton Keynes, was awesome but the fumes were too much.

Kids only use electric ones until they get a bit older it seems...
Ricky49
You will need some deep pockets bud, it costs more than a 6 speed box.
Jamesy
You will need some deep pockets bud, it costs more than a 6 speed box. lol - i think it'd take him a few years in the academy to mount up the same cost as a 6spd dude ....saying that, i would still chose to spend any spare money i get on the kids than the car now given a straight choice as i think the cars had much more than enough cash poured down it already (plus when he gets older he can bankroll his ol' mum and dad )
Lee P
As Ricky said it will cost alot of money over the years but well worth it to create the next Hamilton

That Buckmore place looks perfect and they have an academy he can join next year with proper races etc
Rob_Mitchell
i worked at buckmore park every wednesday as part of my 3 year diploma mechanics course, great fun. there were parents there doing 40-60k a year on there kids, some even more like 80k, its a different world mate and to do well you need to compete with what the others have... b_have
My Son races MSA in the Rotax class, (one of the reasons I'm selling the Supra before karting bankrupts me). Great sport but hugely expensive at the front of the grids.

Rob_Mitchell
Nice edit mate i nearly fell off my chair!!! yeah there were only a handful blowing mega bucks like 70-80k but there karts and gear were amazing. Buckmore is the best place around mate, i think there is a indoor track near gatwick? but not 100% sure. Its a fantastic sport but its a shame about the funding of it. He's 13 now, we started three years ago in the Comer cadet class, (hot tip, if your racing on a budget, stick with Honda cadet) We race rotax at The MSA forest edge circuit near Newbury. (some famous names including Tiff Needel's and Adrian Neweys boys race there).

ilicos
http://www.rye-house.co.uk/ I've been here a few times and it's very professional. It was Lewis Hamilton's home track.

Just seen that thanks mate - they offer a proper kids cadet academy from ages 5-10. You need to provide all the gear like Kart, suit, helmet etc but the lessons are only £25 a go.... doesnt sound too horrific?!
